Chapter 178 - At The Mercy Of Her Shephard

"I was only doing what was right. I don't have the time to rest, I'm going back right away." Fu Lei said and left their presence and Fu YingPei left as well.

Turning to Fu Hua, Grandfather Fu said to him...

"Fu Hua, learn from me. I know you wanted to teach your mother a lesson, but you forgot to think about Jia Li's feelings. You forgot that Jia Li is softhearted and will surely feel bad and blame herself if your mother is sent away."

Grandfather Fu understood that this was his way of protecting his wife but he overlooked her feelings in the process.

Fu Hua thinks deeply and understands that he neglected Jia Li's feelings while trying to teach his mother a lesson.

Knowing Jia Li's personality, he knew that she would surely blame herself if his mother was sent away. Just recurring her worried facial looks before he came down, he sighed.

"Grandfather, Jia Li and I will be leaving this evening." Fu Hua announced.

"Why don't you two stay till tomorrow?" Grandfather Fu asked. With Fu Hua announcing their leaving out of the blue, he was not too surprised.

"I have to go to the office tomorrow morning, so we need to leave today." Fu Hua insisted.

"Okay. I will send the new servants to your house to clean up and wait for you two to return. As for the doctor I contacted for Jia Li, she will be in touch with you soon, I asked her to come over to the country till Jia Li gives birth." Grandfather Fu revealed.

He promised to get a doctor for Jia Li and he did get the best for her.

"Thank you!" Fu Hua said before getting up and leaving his sight. He was going back to his bedroom to find Jia Li.

Fu Hua goes to find Jia Li only to see her standing at the foot of the stairs, with his father standing in front of her. His glint narrowed as he walked towards them in steady steps.

Jia Li had just replied to Fu Lei when she raised her gaze and saw Fu Hua's gaze resting on her. She was surprised to see him so soon.

Seeing her gaze behind him, Fu Lei turned over to see Fu Hua standing behind him. Actually, he heard the footsteps and only turned when he saw the change in Jia Li's facial expression.

That facial expression was enough to tell him that somebody she was submissive to, was behind him.

Seeing his son standing behind him with that narrows gaze, he hurried to explain...

"Fu Hua, you are here. I was just saying 'hello' to Jia Li. I have to go back to the barracks now. See you two some other time." Fu Lei said and patted Fu Hua's shoulder before turning to leave in steady steps.

Jia Li was surprised her father-in-law that rarely said a word, could even walk up to talk to her and say so many words at once.

Retracting his gaze from the direction his father left from, Fu Hua fixed his gaze on Jia Li.

"I told you to stay in the bedroom and wait for me, why did you come downstairs?"

"I was worried." Jia Li replied in a low tone. She felt guilty for going against his instructions.

When the commotion was happening, she wanted to follow him out but he asked her to wait in the bedroom. She had been worried sick and had been sitting impatiently.

At a point, she felt the bed had pins and needles pinching her butts, so she couldn't sit still and had to walk around the room with a worried look on her face.

And at last, when she couldn't take it anymore because she didn't know what was happening downstairs, she decided to go downstairs to check what was happening and was in time to meet face to face with her father-in-law.

Hearing her explanation, Fu Hua had no words left for her. He grabbed her hand and started to walk up the stairs with Jia Li following him like an obedient little lamb at the mercy of her shepherd.

In the bedroom, Fu Hua released her hand and closed the door behind them. Then he asked with his hands in his trouser pockets, as his gaze rested on her, "Did my father frighten you? What did he say to you?"

His question was surprising to Jia Li. She didn't know if he was just curious about what his father said to her, or if he was concerned about her.

Recalling the scene of the awkward conversation between her and her father-in-law, Jia Li replied, "Father didn't frighten me. He only apologized and asked how I was doing?"

Jia Li had just come down the stairs and was in time to see her furious father-in-law walking away when their gazes jammed.

When Fu Lei saw her, he tried to smile as he made his way to her side but his smile was stiff, as he felt it as well, so he stopped.

When he got to her side, he said to her, "Jia Li, how are you? I haven't spoken much to you before. I apologize for Hee's ugly attitude towards you. You can relax, the matter has been taken care of."

"Thank you, Father, I'm fine." Jia Li had replied awkwardly.

The conversation was too awkward that she wished to flee from him, and luckily, Fu Hua had appeared at that time.

Back to the current scene. Fu Hua gazed into her eyes and asked, "That's all?"

"Yes." Jia Li replied and nodded.

As they were standing face to face, Fu Hua removed his hands from his pockets as his gaze on her softened. He placed his palms on her cheeks and leaned in to kiss her but Jia Li moved her lips away, so his lips touched her cheeks.

Fu Hua moved his face away to glance at Jia Li's face, only to see her looking in another direction.

"Rest." He said to her and turned to walk away but a pair of soft palms grabbed his hand.

Jia Li glanced at him with a soft gaze. She didn't know the reason she rejected him earlier but seeing him about to walk past her, she was scared he would be cold towards her for rejecting his touches for the second time in a roll.
