Chapter 79: Suicide

“I see.” Hu Wan rubbed her heart back and forth and smiled. “Chen Chen, after we register our marriage today, I’ll try my best to make them accept me.”

“You don’t have to do anything. Just treat your illness properly.” Chen Chen placed Hu Wan down steadily.

“Then let’s go now, okay? Chen Chen, I really want to be your wife as soon as possible, even if it’s just a minute earlier.” Hu Wan pouted and begged Chen Chen. Even if Bai Ran had already arrived, she was still worried that something bad would happen if they stayed here any longer.

“But is your body really okay? You’re following me everywhere. Why don’t you get the doctor to check you today and make sure that there’s no problem? You can come with me tomorrow,” Chen Chen said.

“Chen Chen, are you looking for an excuse?” Hu Wan looked into Chen Chen’s eyes with a pitiful expression. “You know very well that being your wife is actually more useful than any miracle medicine.”

“Okay,” Chen Chen replied reluctantly.

Hu Wan took a deep breath and tried hard to ignore those hesitations and difficulties. She encouraged herself in her heart. As long as the outcome was satisfactory, as long as she was the final winner! The process was not important!

The two of them packed up and were about to leave the ward when Chen Chen’s phone rang again.

“What? Grandma wants to say her last words?” Chen Chen stopped in his tracks and asked nervously when he heard the contents of the phone.

“Yes. When Grandma found out that you and Hu Wan are going to register your marriage and are even coming home together, she was so angry that she got someone to find all the blood-pressure pills she had and poured them in front of her. She said that if you don’t come back now, she’ll start settling her funeral matters and then swallow all these pills. Anyway, you don’t want her to live, do you?” Chen Chen’s mother described on the other end of the line, afraid that the matter was not serious enough.

“Besides, Grandma said that you either come back alone or bring Ran Ran back. Otherwise, you’ll be waiting to offer hr incense!” Chen Chen’s mother added.

“What’s going on?” Hu Wan followed behind, looking a little nervous.

“Grandma wants to take medicine and kill herself.” Chen Chen put away his phone, wanting to leave by himself. “I have to go back now, or something will happen to Grandma.”

“How is that possible? Your mother and the servants are still at home. Can’t they stop her?” Hu Wan pulled Chen Chen tightly. Her hands were so twisted that the veins were popping. “They clearly just want to trick you into going back.”

“Maybe she’s lying to me, but maybe it’s true? If I really don’t go back, Grandma might really do such a thing.” Chen Chen shook off Hu Wan’s hand. “Go back and rest first. We’ll talk after I’m done.”

Hu Wan’s hand missed its target. She looked at Chen Chen’s departing back with a disappointed expression.

On the other hand, Bai Ran was waiting anxiously at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Passersby on the way looked at her.

“Sigh… Why aren’t they here yet?” Bai Ran watched as time passed. She had already asked for two hours of leave from the company.

Bai Ran picked up her phone and was about to call Chen Chen when her phone screen lit up. It was a call from Chen Chen.

“Hey, Grandma is going to commit suicide at home. Stop waiting. Hurry up and take a taxi home!” Chen Chen shouted.

“What? What happened?” Bai Ran was stunned.

“Stop talking. Go first! With you around, Grandma’s mood will be better,” Chen Chen said and hung up.

Not long after, Chen Chen returned to the Chen family’s residence first.

“You still know to come back?” Grandma sat upright in the hall. The coffee table was filled with hundreds of medicine.

“What’s wrong with you two? Are you letting Grandma mess around?” Chen Chen said as he walked forward and prepared to put away the medicine.

“Stop. I told them not to interfere. You’re not allowed to move either.” Grandma’s expression was very serious.

Chen Chen could only stop and lower his head.

“Where’s Ran Ran? She didn’t come back with you?” Grandma asked again.

“She should be here later,” Chen Chen said as he looked at his watch.

“Wait? You’re not picking her up?” Grandma patted the coffee table.

“Isn’t she afraid that something will happen to Grandma?” Chen Chen said helplessly. “She should be here soon.”
