Chapter 1878: Follow the Scent

Huo Jinfeng was no different from a genial elder when he was not serious. However, the indignant look on his face at this moment genuinely did not match his status. 

"Is it that bad to be the heir?"

After some time, he asked. 

Hearing this, Huo Yao's brow throbbed. She said, "Nothing's wrong with being the heir. I just think Brother Yulin is more suited for the job."

She thought her family was poor and made up her mind to accept it, but the truth was getting further and further away from what she expected. 

Huo Yao sighed softly. She pondered and said, "If my parents find out, I'm sure they won't want me to do it either."

After all, her parents reacted very strongly toward Huo Changfeng, afraid he would do something to her. If they found out she was the heir, they probably would not let it slide. 

Sure enough, the moment Huo Jinfeng heard what his niece said, he swallowed the words at the tip of his tongue.

He stopped talking about the matter of the heir. 

Huo Yao sat in the living room until she could smell the faint scent of Chinese medicine floating in the air. She raised her head to glance at the kitchen. Then, she got up and walked over. 

Shangguan Tong was standing in the kitchen making Chinese medicine. When she detected someone behind her, she veered her body slightly. "Are you done?"

"Uh huh." Huo Yao leaned against the door with her arms crossed looking at the stove. She watched the fire burn for half a minute before she said, "Oh yes. Aunt Tong, I have a question for you."

Shangguan Tong lowered the fire and looked at Huo Yao. "What question?"

Huo Yao paused briefly and continued, "Other than using a tracker, is there any other way someone can be traced?"

"Why are you suddenly asking?" Shangguan Tong felt puzzled. She quickly answered, "Considering the current level of technology, other than using a tracker, there is no other way to accurately track someone."

"Do you think so too?" Huo Yao thought about the other day when she entered Mirage Base. 

No matter where she went, she could be located. 

However, she was certain that it was impossible for people to detect her so quickly considering her abilities. 

She always found this strange. 

She had a nagging feeling that she was missing something. 

Shangguan Tong shook her head. Just as she was about to speak, something suddenly dawned on her, so she changed her words. "Then again, if both parties are close enough, there might be some other way to track someone."

Huo Yao narrowed her eyes waiting for her to continue. 

"Some animals with a strong sense of smell can find someone according to their scent within a certain distance."

"Animals?" Huo Yao was stunned. 

"Uh huh. Animals." Shangguan Tong nodded. She shared what she had read in some books previously. "After all, everyone has a different scent. Animals that have undergone special training can locate someone according to their scent."

In the end, Shangguan Tong concluded. "This technique is more primitive compared to using technology. It clearly has its shortcomings and can take a lot of time."

Huo Yao finally realized what she was missing. 

Yes. It was animals. 

No wonder she spotted a mouse at Mirage Base. Why would a mouse appear in a place like Mirage Base, right?

It had to be that mouse. 

Huo Yao narrowed her eyes. When she left Min Yu's villa today, she saw a gray silhouette through the rearview mirror. It was most likely the mouse she saw at Mirage Base then. 

Shangguan Tong noticed something amiss with Huo Yao and could not help asking, "What's wrong?"

Huo Yao gathered her thoughts and spoke calmly, "I think I got marked."

"What do you mean?" Shangguan Tong was no longer in the mood to care about the medicine. 

"The most primitive methods often get overlooked. If I'm not mistaken, I can probably be tracked no matter where I go." Huo Yao shrugged. Even though she had learned the truth, she remained relaxed.
