Chapter 277 – Magic Circle

“While I won’t know the details until I investigate later, it is destructible.”

It would take time to analyze the workings of the magic circle.

However, if I knew what part was sending magic energy to the true ancestor, I would be able to destroy it.

“It seems like you put a lot of effort into tricking us, but it will be for nothing once I am aware of the wavelengths and structure of the magic.”

“You monster…”

The true ancestor muttered, and his face grew even more pale. And then after shriveling up, he stopped moving altogether.

The severed parts of his body did not move either.

The magic that had been moving him was completely gone.

“You’re one to talk, monster.”

And then Eric and I began to search the true ancestor’s motionless body.

As the true ancestor was already dead, he did not turn into ashes.

Perhaps if he was connected to a different magic mecanism, he would start moving again.

And so we had to be very careful while studying him.

“But first…”

I looked up at the sky.

Far into the distance. Above the swirling clouds in the clear sky, dragons were fighting a brutal battle.

Wind Dragon King Kathe, the previous king, Dorgo, and Morris of the water dragons were fighting fifteen evil dragons.

“…Are there more evil dragons now?”

I couldn’t help but mutter. When the battle had just started, there were only ten of them.

And this was Kathe and the others. They would have already defeated a few.

And yet, the number of enemies was increasing.

“Kathe. How are you?”

I said through the communication bracelet.

‘I’m fine! We’ve killed fifteen of them already!’

That meant that a total of thirty evil dragons had flown over the royal capital.

“If you need any help, just tell me. We defeated the true ancestor over here.”

‘Understood! If things get bad, I won’t hesitate to ask you.’

And then the communication ended. I didn’t want to distract her now.

Eric, who had been listening, said,

“Thirty, eh? They are really coming out in full force.”

“Aye. That means if we win, things will be very peaceful afterwards.”

“I hope you are right.”

On the other hand, Goran was walking towards Serulis and the others.

By the time we had defeated the true ancestor, they had defeated all of the Lords.

“Brilliant. You impress me!”

After seeing the piles of ashes, Goran praised Shia, Serulis and Grulf.

“Th-thank you.”

Serulis’s cheeks flushed.

“It’s an honor.”

“Gruff.”

“Arrogance can be dangerous, but you have a right to be confident.”

Goran said with a smile.

Just because the battle was over, it did not mean that Goran had let down his guard.

As he commended them, he scanned the area and studied the piles of vampire ashes.

Shia also quickly moved to inspect the dead Lords.

“These are ominous medals. The way that they are filled with curses is different from previous Lords we defeated.”

“And there are thirty of them.”

Aside from the first twenty, ten others had rushed towards them, and were turned into ashes by Lord Gerberga.

And so they had killed thirty Lords in total.

‘Locke. How much mist is left in the palace?’

Eric asked me through telepathy. We didn’t know who might be listening to us.

And so he had cautiously switched to telepathy.

‘There are still four other places left.’

‘Will they increase?’

‘There is no need to worry about that. We defeated the true ancestor, and so it is over.’

I thought a little about what we should do now.

And then I took the Devil King Sword and cut the magic circle under the true ancestor’s feet once again.

A deep cut appeared on the floor, as well as the magic circle.

‘Locke. Is the magic circle destroyed now?’

‘I believe so. The more complex and detailed a magic circle is, the easier it is to destroy.’

And then Goran said,

‘So there is no magic energy running through it?’

‘There is not. However, as the mana is so dense, I cannot explore with much precision.’

I had not been able to use Magic Detection or Magic Exploration to locate the magic mechanic that was connected to the true ancestor.

And so I had no choice but to use Drain Touch to find it.

The mana was too thick in this place.

As it was thick with the mist of transformed vampires, I had to use Lord Gerberga’s power to drive it away.

But driving it away just meant returning the mist to mana.

On top of that, we defeated the true ancestor and thirty Lords. So the mana became even thicker.

‘And so I can’t get a full grasp on the magic circle.’

Perhaps if I did it slowly, but we had no time right now.

‘In other words, it’s possible that it isn’t broken?’

‘Yes. You’ll have to deal with it if it turns out to be the case.’

When cutting a magic circle with a sword, usually, it would break and no longer be able to function.

However, if the magic circle was written in a different dimension that we cannot see, cutting it with a sword would do nothing.

Indeed, it would be necessary to analyze it carefully and find it. It would not be breakable unless I fully understood the structure and theory behind it.

And that would take at least half an hour for me.

But right now, we had to get rid of the remaining mist and bring back the divine protection.

And there was not much time left until sundown.

If the sun set, then the dark ones would become more active.

And so I definitely wanted to clear the palace of mist and repair the divine protection before then.

‘Can I leave the rest to you? I’ll go and deal with the mist.’

Lord Gerberga was the best way to erase it.

But Lord Gerberga was also an easy target for the enemy. And so I had to stay with him at all times.
