Aside from career-related matters, all he would ever talk about was proposing to her and getting married. Why was he so insistent with getting her to marry him?

She had already turned him down for so many times, yet it looks like he won't be giving up anytime soon. Ugh.

Ever since the day she discovered Lu Chen was Lu Qiang's son, the president's attention on her became even more imposing.

Before, all she would ever talk about with Lu Chen would be about work. It's also understandable that sometimes, they would also talk about something personal. However, all the personal things they've talked about in the past were nowhere near to the types of conversations they were having recently.

He was also acting quite differently from before. In the past, Xiu Mei could still feel the line drawn by him to her. He may not be showing it through his actions, but she could feel it in his eyes. And it felt like meeting a different person. A different Lu Chen. Not the emperor she had known for so many years that was cold and distant, but right now, he was more humane. It's like he became more colorful with all those emotions on his face.

Her mind automatically drifted to the gentle expression Lu Chen had shown to her when she was sick in bed. It felt like she was meeting a different person. He was so gentle and attentive that she almost didn't recognize him. And then she met the ferocious Lu Chen next, and it was knowing him all over again.

Just how many sides of the president was there really?

Xiu Mei was already by the elevator when she paused. She finally remembered the papers she was supposed to submit the reports to the president. Looking at the folder she was holding, she became hesitant in returning inside that office.

She was sure that she would only get into another argument with Lu Chen if she goes back in there again.

Forget it, I'll just give it to him when I officially return to work tomorrow.

The moment Xiu Mei reached the underground parking, she regretted not choosing to return to the president's office instead rather than going home.

Because after the elevator opened, she failed to see the reporters hiding and surrounding the elevator doors. And the moment she finally realized what's in front of her, she knew she made a great mistake of not closing the elevator doors quickly.

That's why right now, she found herself being bombarded by the reporters inside the elevator. They were blocking the elevator doors that it didn't have any chance of closing anymore.

Dang it, where are the guards?! How did they get inside the building? She would be having a good talk with the security team after this!

Xiu Mei's back was glued onto the elevator wall while being surrounded by the elevators flashing their cameras, and microphones to her. She couldn't even understand what they were all saying since they were all speaking all at a time.

"A few words about the engagement please!"

"Ms. Xiu, how does it feel to be married to one of the best businessmen in the world?"

"Is this a political marriage?"

They were hounding her with questions, but Xiu Mei did her best to act calm and unfazed in front of those reporters. She was patiently and silently waiting for the guards to control the reporters, and then she can go.

Xiu Mei didn't want to do or speak at all in front of these reporters since her words might get twisted in the hands of the media. She understood this perfectly that the media would always try anything just to get popularity, even if that meant twisting your words and planting ideas on the readers that wasn't your intent.

It is scary, but this is reality. Lu Chen and her are a public figure, and especially high-profile ones at that. Her, coming from a prominent family in the country and him, hailed as one of the best businessmen in the world.

And after hearing the 'engagement', the media went crazy on the possible union of the only daughter of the Xiu family and one of the most sought men in the country. How could the media give up on that scoop, right?

After patiently waiting for a few minutes, the security was finally alerted of what was currently happening and quickly went down to control the situation in the underground parking lot. They forcefully obstructed the reporters that were trying to get close to Xiu Mei while some were helping her return to her vehicle.

"Finally reached!" Xiu Mei exclaimed as she sat onto the driver's seat. She didn't waste any more second and quickly ignited the car to life. She drove away at the place and was finally officially freed from the clutches of those aggressive reporters.

Xiu Mei sighed. What's with everyone being too aggressive lately? Was she missing something or what?

She was on the way back to her home when her phone rang to life. Pressing the call button on the screen of the car, the call was finally connected.

"Hello?"

Xiu Mei asked, not checking who the caller was as she was entirely focusing her sight on the road.

"Xiu Bao Bao! Are you planning to get married without informing us?!" A thundering voice resounded inside the car.

The moment Xiu Mei listened to the voice, she almost stepped on the breaks and caused an accident. Thankfully, she was able to stop herself at the last moment.

When the traffic lights turned red, Xiu Mei quickly shifted her attention to the call that she had accepted. Her eyes widened, as dread quickly filled her.

The family's queen, her majesty, her mom. Was. Fudging. Calling. Her.

She was so dead. How did she forget about explaining the situation first to her family?!
