(1) Lone cultivator: a more literal translation would be loose cultivator, meaning a cultivator that does not belong to any sects or clans, most protagonists in Chinese novels are like this. Lone cultivators have the advantage of not needing to share their findings with the sect/clan, but doesn’t get protection and other cultivation necessities because they’re alone.
