Chapter 2 - The Old Mans Identity
Chapter 2 - The Old Mans Identity
When they got to the hospital, the Old Man was rushed to the theater immediately, while Jia Li sat in the corridor to wait.
She looked worried as she glanced at the closed doors of the theater. But there was nothing she could rather than sit, pray, hope, and wait patiently.
She almost felt like cursing the families of the old man for allowing him to drive himself by that time of the day.
Something kicked in Jia Li's mind as she thought about the Old Man's family.
How will I contact his family?
Are they looking for him already?
With all these thoughts coming forth like the waves from the sea, she suddenly remembered that she picked a wallet from the ground at the scene of the accident.
She checked her pocket for it, but she found her cell phone instead. Then she checked the other pocket and found it.
She didn't know if what she was about to do was right, searching someone else's property without permission, and she was not even the police.
But considering the situation, she had to see if there was a way to reach the Old Man's family in case they were worried sick and looking for at the moment.
Opening the brown leather wallet, she found an ID card, which belongs to the man. She took it out and checked for the details, and discovered that it was a resident Identity Card, which means she might not be able to find any contact that might be to his relation.
Taking a careful look at the details of his ID Card, she discovered that the man was surnamed Fu, and there was a 'Gen.' before his surname, 'Fu'. And the passport on the ID she discovered he was putting on a military uniform.
'Is he a soldier?.' Jia Li thought before going to the next details and discovered his resident address, so she smiled, thinking that she would find answers soon. But she was disappointed when she saw the address written on the ID.
The resident address was situated in City X, which was a very far city from the countryside/village they were currently at. And since she was born, she has never heard the name of that address before.
Jia Li was a bit disappointed, because the address was so far away, and wasn't something she could reach even if she tried.
"But What is this grandfather doing here alone when he has a house in such a nice city?." Jia Li wondered as she put the ID card back into her pocket.
While sitting there and waiting, she forgot to call home to inform her father she would be home late because of her encounter.
As she was sitting there with her gaze locked on the door. She heard rushed approaching footsteps, so she looked over and so a familiar figure rushing to her side.
"Mum?." She called out in a soft tone.
"Jia Li, are you hurt?." The older woman in a nurse uniform asked as she checked her daughter out with a worried look on her face.
"Mum, I'm fine!." Jia Li assured her mother as she was starting to get dizzy from all the shaking.
"Ah! You scared me to death. But are you sure you are okay?." The woman asked again to be sure. She still looked worried.
"Yes Mum, I'm fine. It's the grandfather I came in with that is injured. He is in the theater now." Jia Li explained as she pointed at the tightly shut doors of the operation room.
"What happened, how come you are with an injured grandfather?." The woman asked with a sharp look as she gazed at her daughter.
Jia Li was a bit scared explaining the to her because she took a big risk. But it was not like saying the truth would get her killed. So she went all out and explained everything to her.
"You...you. What if you got in trouble? Do you know the kind of situation you would have gotten yourself into, in a hit and run accident?." The woman asked as she hit her back.
"Ah! Mum! I was only trying to save a life!." Jia Li cried out as she moved away from her mother's side.
"You were trying to save a life when you would have gotten our family in trouble?." The woman asked angrily.
"But you thought me that. You said that saving lives was important and should be a daily act." Jia Li reminded her.
Her mother was speechless.
Her daughter's reminder was an absolute truth. If she was the one in that situation, she would have saved the old man without thinking twice, because it was in her nature.
But admonishing her child, was because she was worried about her safety.
"Next time, don't just rush to help people in this type of situation. You have to be careful, and call the police." She reminded her after sitting on the bench.
"Yes, Mum!. But mum, how did you know I was here?." Jia Li asked, after not recalling dialing her number.
"Nurse Li informed me she saw you come in with the Ambulance, and I was so scared out of my wits thinking something might have happened to you. But it's good that you are okay." Her mother said to her.
"Oh! Mum, I was supposed to make dinner for Dad, but I was caught up with something." Jia Li said with a smile.
Her mother glared at her. "I will make the call." She said to her before stepping out to make the call.
As she stepped out, some people in uniform came to find Jia Li, they were the police people in the district.
"Hello, Miss! We are the..." One of the policemen greeted Jia Li, introduced himself and his colleagues, before going down to business.
They came to get a statement from Jia Li about the hit and run incident the Old Mr. Fu was involved in.
Just as Jia Li was about to respond, her mother came back and blocked her from the view of the policemen in a protective manner.
She introduced herself to them as a nurse in the hospital, and as Jia Li's mother.
