An hour later, Lu Jia’er was standing at the entry of the Department of Orthopaedics in a hospital.
After a while, a tall man pushed an elegant gray-haired old gentleman who was seated on a wheelchair.
Lu Jia’er came up and saw the old man wearing a cervical collar. She apologized again. “I’m really sorry, Mister. I will bear all your medical expenses!”
The old man glanced at her and said coolly, “You should be more careful behind the wheel!”
From the accident site all the way to the hospital, the old man did not blame her at all, which made Lu Jia’er feel guilty. “Yes, I will. I am really sorry! Mister, where do you live? I will drive you home!”
“No, thanks. We can go back on our own!” the old man said.
The man next to the old gentleman looked at the screen of his mobile phone and then said to him. “Professor, Ace says he will arrive soon!”
Lu Jia’er was dumbfounded as she heard the name of Ace. It was a coincidence which she could hardly believe!
Then the man standing behind the old man waved at someone behind her. “Ace, we’re here!”
Lu Jia’er turned around, saw the tall figure and finally realized what it meant by the saying: without coincidences there would be no stories . The man who was approaching them was none other than Jin Xiangdong, the man she had met yesterday. When Jin Xiangdong saw Lu Jia’er his eyes also shone with astonishment. He kept going straight to his father.
“Dad, are you all right?” Jiang Xiangdong saw the cervical collar around the neck of the old man and asked with concern.
Lu Jia’er froze as she heard Jin Xiangdong called the old man ‘dad’. How had she managed to fail to recognize a man of such eminence as this old man, who was actually Jin Shengping, a well-known scientist.
Lu Jia’er had not identified him in the first place as Jin Shengping had spent many years abroad, and it was particularly hard to meet with him in person.
Lu Jia’er was nervous as she hadn’t expected to run into Jin Shengping. The probability of encountering him was very small but she was lucky enough!
“A minor fracture of the neck. Nothing serious!” said Jin Shengping mildly.
“Did you have a thorough examination?” asked Jin Xiangdong.
“The doctor says I’m fine!” said Jin Shengpin.
Hearing the details of his father’s condition, Jin Xiangdong sighed with relief. “That’s good!”
After the inquiry, Jin Xiangdong gazed at Lu Jia’er and when he saw her expression, he quickly concluded her part of the story.
“Professor Lu, I’m glad to see you again!” greeted Jin Xiangdong.
Lu Jia’er felt a little embarrassed and apologized. “Ace, sorry, I hit your father’s car!”
Finding that the girl was an acquaintance of his son, Jin Shengping fixed his stare on Lu Jia’er for some time.
“The incident was predetermined by fate!” Jin Xiangdong smiled.
Sure enough! Lu Jia’er silently commented in her mind and then looked at Jin Shengping. “Professor Jin, I am really sorry for being reckless and hitting your car!”
Faced with Lu Jia’er’s renewed apology, Jin Shengping smiled and asked, “What discipline do you teach?”
“Psychology!” Lu Jia’er replied.
“Psychology is the science focusing on the human mind!” Jin Shengping said.
In front of such a significant scientist, what Lu Jia’er had achieved was unworthy of being mentioned.
“Yes.” Lu Jia’er said softly.
“Dad, let me introduce Professor Lu Jia’er to you. She is a professor at B University, a leading expert in the study of behavioral psychology, and she is also one of the professors we have invited to join our company’s R&D team!” Jin Xiangdong formally introduced Lu Jai’er to Jin Shengping.
Lu Jia’er felt extremely flattered. Ace had seemingly overstated her profile.
