Chapter 5: Paraded Naked Through the Street

Ren Baqian wrapped himself in his quilt and felt slightly warm.

However, his mind was in a tremendous muddle.

As expected, he was once again back in this world, and this time around, he brought his quilt along.

The last time around to this world, he brought along his chair and a bowl of instant noodles. When he went back to Earth, he brought the pile of straw that was beneath him. This time around, he brought his quilt to here.

It seemed that anything he had direct contact with would be teleported alongside him between the two worlds.

However, he still did not know how he travelled between the two worlds. There were no signs or anomalies. Nothing weird had happened the first time he was teleported to this world.

Just like the last time he was teleported back to Earth, it occurred while he was sleeping.

There was a time interval of three days between the last time he was teleported and today.

The last time he came to stay, he also stayed for three days.

It seemed like every three days he would be teleported once.

He would see whether or not he would be teleported back to Earth three days later.

He previously spent three days here while the time on Earth passed by nine days.

Since he had spent three days on Earth, that meant the time here passed by only one day?

Ren Baqian thought about it and crawled out of his quilt. Then, he fumbled his way to the metal door. And he indeed felt the rock-hard cornbread and the bowl of weird-tasting salt water.

It appeared no one realized he had gone missing for a day.

He threw the cornbread to one corner of the cell, poured away the salt water, and placed the bowl back where it originally stood.

Just as he was about to crawl back into his quilt, he suddenly thought of an important question.

The last time he was teleported here, he was wearing a pants and an undershirt. This time, because he was sleeping, he wore only a pair of underpants.

If that lady summoned him… that scene was so "beautiful" that he did not even dare to think about it.

And how was he going to explain this quilt?

A quilt that appeared out of thin air? He couldn't explain this at all.

Ren Baqian felt a headache as he thought of these issues.

Initially, he wished that the lady would summon him faster. Now, he wished she would not summon him for the next three days and would only do so after he returned to Earth and put on a pair of pants and an undershirt.

Life isn't a bed of roses. Ren Baqian finally believed these words. The more one did not want something, the more it would come to him or her.

Ren Baqian was awakened by the sound of the metal door opening.

Two persons walked into the cell. Both of them were clad in shining armor, and they had swords attached to their waists: looking similar to the man who dragged him to this cell that day.

The moment the two men entered the cell, they saw the quilt-wrapped Ren Baqian.

Behind them, the jailer stood at the door. When he saw Ren Baqian, his eyes widened.

Ren Baqian definitely carried nothing with him when he was dragged into this cell, so where did the quilt come from?

"Follow us," one of the two soldiers ordered as the pair stood in front of Ren Baqian and looked down at him.

"Can I walk with this quilt wrapped around me?" Ren Baqian smiled out of embarrassment.

"Stop wasting our time," the other soldier chided and pulled Ren Baqian up by his elbow.

When they saw Ren Baqian wearing only a pair of underpants, the corners of their mouths twitched.

This wasn't their first time interrogating a prisoner but seeing one who slept naked was definitely a first for them.

"Where are your clothes? Put them on."

My clothes… are gone." Ren Baqian did not know what to say.

The two soldiers knew this man was wearing clothes when he was brought to the cell. Why was he now left with only a pair of underpants?

The two soldiers shifted their gazes to the jailer.

The jailer, overwhelmed with fear as the two soldiers stared at him, quickly explained, "It has nothing to do with me. The door has never been opened since the moment he was brought in. I also don't know where his clothes have disappeared to."

To prove that he wasn't lying, he added, "He also didn't have this quilt when he was brought in. I don't know where it came from."

The two soldiers looked at each other with doubt in their eyes.

The jailer did not seem to be lying, and he definitely would not have the audacity to do so. So, what was going on now?

"Look at his body, in what way does it seem like he has stayed in the cell for a few days? He doesn't have any dirt or dust on him at all. He looks like he has just crawled out from his bed. There's something wrong with him but it has nothing to do with me," the jailer continued.

"Bring him there first and we will talk about it again," one of the soldiers said. Following which, the other soldier dragged Ren Baqian by his elbow and pushed him towards the door.

"Walk. Walk slightly slower and you will get it from us."

"Can I wrap myself with this quilt, please?" Ren Baqian tried his best to persuade the two soldiers.

He was greeted with a kick and a pitch-black shoe print on his ass.

The two soldiers dragged him and his quilt to the outside. There were two more men waiting there for them.

Ren Baqian felt that he couldn't even escape from one soldier, let alone four. He was overestimating himself.

After leaving the dungeon's cortyard and making a turn, they set foot upon a bustling, prosperous street. Wrapped by a quilt, Ren Baqian was hauled onto the street by the four soldiers.

Greeting him were gazes and laughter that came from all directions.

"Look, this man is just wearing a pair of underpants."

"Was he captured from a brothel?"

"Eh! Look at that bulge! This fellow has a rather huge wiener."

"This fellow is quite clean and fair too. He must be from a well-off family." This guy guessed incorrectly. The Earth was filled with people like Rem Baqian.

Ren Baqian's face was bright red. He lowered his head so low that it almost touched his thighs. The four soldiers did not have any intention to let him hide his embarrassment; they continued to drag him forward.

"Brothers, my reputation is going to be destroyed completely." Ren Baqian was about to bawl his eyes out. Was this considered streaking? Furthermore, there were so many pairs of eyes looking at him now.

The only thing that consoled him was his pair of underpants.

Actually, there was another thing that made him felt slightly better, that was—his assets. If he had insufficient assets, he would then be truly ashamed of himself.

With everyone on the street pointing their fingers and looking at him, Ren Baqian arrived at his destination, the palace complex he'd seen that day when he first entered this city.

Ren Baqian initially felt utterly embarrassed, but he eventually developed an apathetic attitude, ignoring what everyone said about him.

At the end of the street, there was an open space. After they passed the open land, they reached a stone bridge and a river. They then reached a palace wall. Looking from afar, one could see a building complex behind the palace wall.

The palace wall was 10 meters tall. The palace halls behind it were even much taller than it. If one looked at them from a distance, he or she could see their magnificence.

Ren Baqian was brought in through a side door. Initially, he thought that he would see that lady, but in the end, he was brought to the side of a plaza. Two of soldiers went into the highest palace hall in front of the plaza while the remaining two stayed behind to watch over Ren Baqian.

Ren Baqian was unsure of whether or not was he hallucinating, but the sun in this world was bigger and hotter than Earth's.

Judging from the position of the sun, it must be early afternoon. Standing in the sun for a while made him dizzy.

Ren Baqian did not know for how long he had stood there. Suddenly, he heard three drumbeats and returned to his senses.

Densely-packed footsteps resounded through the air. Many people were walking out from the highest palace hall.

"An imperial court session has ended?" Ren Baqian made a guess in his mind. Then, his thoughts began to wander. "That lady was an emperor? A lady can be an emperor in this world? Wu Zetian was the only female emperor in the history of China, right?"

Ren Baqian lowered his head. One by one, imperial-official-like men walked past and cast sidelong glances at him.

After all, he shouldn't be here in his current state. He looked like someone who had just been arrested on the bed in a brothel.

"Ahaha." Someone was laughing at him.

Ren Baqian's head lowered even lower.

"Who is this?" Someone asked one of the four soldiers.

"The prisoner that Her Majesty wants to see."

Following which, the footsteps of people walking away rang across Ren Baqian's ears.

After all of those people had left, Ren Baqian finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Wearing only a pair of underpants while surrounded by people was far too challenging for his sense of shame.

The two soldiers who had just now left ran back in a haste. "Her Majesty wants to see him, let's go."

Ren Baqian was hauled along a road on the side of the plaza bypassing it entirely. After making a few turns, they arrived at a smaller palace hall and waited outside its entrance.

Everyone that occasionally walked past him laughed up their sleeves.
