Chapter 74: [Blessing]

Just like what Shien had thought. Most of the books in the adventurer's guild library had to do with completing quests.

For example, [The Basics of Magic Item Types and Construction], [Demonic Beast Index], [Material Identification and Typing], [Wilderness Adventuring FAQ], [Mortal World Danger Spot Catalog], [Magic Spring Locations], etc. All of them were quite obvious as to their contents just from looking at the names, and one after another of them appeared in the index.

As Shien scanned through these book names, he also considered what he wanted to find for himself.

Of them, Shien had immediately locked onto one particular book.

"[Omnipotlin] huh?"

The moment that Shien saw the name of the book, he immediately decided to read that one first.

That's because this book was about the creations and history of this world of Omnipotlin.

Based on the directions from the index, Shien came to the bookcase where his target was and easily found the book.

"This really is convenient."

As he reminisced over how convenient this library was, Shien also started flipping through this book named [Omnipotlin].

Only until this moment did Shien first learn of the basics of this world.

No, truth be told, Shien had already learned some the basics from Nien.

Based on that goddess, this world had only gods and demons at the very start.

Gods had various authorities over various things, and controlled various powers based on those authorities.

Demons were naturally born with great power, and none could match them went it came to battle and destruction.

Due to the fact that gods each have their individual duties, each of them are generally the greatest at their specialty. That said though, due to the differences in their specialties, what they are good at differs. Thus, among the gods, there does exist those with low or even no fighting abilities at all.

Demons are generally all fairly strong. Plus, they weren't limited in numbers, so the collective power of their race far eclipses that of the gods. However, they also aren't nearly as all powerful as the gods, who are able to wield abilities close to miracles.

The two races have been at war since ages past, which was the cause for all that had later happened.

That portion was nearly exactly the same as Nien's explanations.

However, Shien found that before all that, gods and demons actually had their own origins.

The introduction in the book was thus.

"At the birth of this word, Omnipotlin only had two living beings."

"One was named Omnis."

"The other, Claudis."

"Omnis was an omnipotent existence, the origin and beginning of the world."

"Claudis was the manifestation of power. The very incarnation of destruction and annihilation."

"Gods gained from Omnis her power and authorities, and from that, their various stations. As the original race born from Omnis and the one of the first races, they created the various races of humans, elves, dwarves, beastmen, etc. They are the creators of the mortal races, and have guided the path of the mortal world all this time."

"Demons are a race born under the effect of Claudis's magic power. They are existences born from nature, having been warped by magical power, much like demonic beasts born from the effects of magic springs. They were naturally born with great might, and so too do they hold might above all, making them a subject of fear and terror."

With those two existences as the source, thus the gods and demons appeared, and thus too came all the other races.

Thus, it wouldn't be wrong to say that all things came from those two original life forms.

However, gods and demons opposed each other from the moment they were born.

Perhaps not even the gods and demons themselves really know just why that was.

Maybe it was because of an unresolvable conflict, or maybe one just disliked the other and wanted sole control of the world.

The real reason behind all of that had long since been buried in history, unknown to all.

It could be seen from that just how long the history of war between the gods and demons were.

"With such a long history of war, no wonder there would be people within the demons who don't wish for peace."

Shien thought that to himself as he continued reading on.

Only…

"Omnis…"

"Claudis…"

Unquestionable, the ones bearing those names and their identities were revealed.

"Omnis is the highest goddess. The top of the gods, known as the Highest God."

"Claudis is the Demon King who brings chaos. The peak of the demons, whose power is such that even the Highest God must avoid. She is the strongest being in the world."

Thus, the gods had no choice but to summon an existence capable of defeating the Demon King from another world – the Hero.

However, even so, the Heroes throughout history fell before the Demon King one after another. Not a single one of them manged to defeat the Demon King.

Until a thousand years ago…

"History's strongest Hero, Mitra."

That Hero was stronger than any who had come before. Not even the other Heroes in history could compare to him. And in the end, he finally managed to defeat the Demon King with the aid of the Highest God Omnis and the various races, and thus saved the world.

"The later contents were the same as what Vivian told me before."

The Demon King was defeated. Highest God Omnis had exhausted too much power. She split the world into three portions and then led the gods to the divine realm. Then she stayed in the deepest part of the divine realm and has not shown herself again since. The three races also thus managed to welcome a thousand years of peace.

"Highest God…"

Shien thought it over and shifted his gaze at his special skill – [Blessing of the Highest God].

Even now, Shien still didn't know just what that skill did.

"Speaking of, I don't even know exactly just what a blessing is."

Shien begun going through the bookcases to search for other books. After about 5 minutes later, he finally found a relevant book – [Gods' Blessings].

"The thing known as blessings are actually a kind of protection that the gods granted the living creatures of the mortal world."

That was the first sentence shown when Shien opened up that book.

"Based on the differences in their duties, their respective blessing also vary in effect."

"For example, one who had received the blessing of the god of health could crow up healthy. They'd be basically immune to sickness and can easily live to a hundred years old."

"Another example is the blessing from the god of harvest. One who receives that will have a number of boosts when it comes to agricultural jobs."

"Basically, normal people will generally get blessings from gods like the ones listed above. Only those with talents in other areas will gain blessings from other kinds of gods and through that, show effects and talents related to those blessings."

"Those with talent for merchantry will gain the blessing of the god of merchants. They would gain various effects for related subjects like safety, operational ability, and management."

"Those with artistic talents will gain the blessing from the god of art. And with that, they will similarly gain related abilities."

"Those with talents related to combat, such as adventurers, will generally gain blessings that raise defenses or immunities against various things, and even effects that will help them survive when their lives are in danger."

"The blessings of the gods are many. However many gods there are, that's the number of kinds of blessings."

That's what blessings are.
