Chapter 183 - Retreat

Seeing the arrival of hundreds of new enemies, Hao Xuan's blood boiled and the will to fight turned from a small spark to a raging fire. He circulated Force Qi and Sundering Qi, "ASSAULT OF THE MAD GOD!"

His arms turned black and enlarged. Every single muscle in his arms contracted and then expanded with a force that was felt by even the soldiers around him. The air hummed for an instant.

"AHH!"

He lifted up the silver sword in his hand and threw it like a spear, nailing three creatures to a coffin a few dozen meters away.

"NO RETREAT!" he shouted at the men behind him and used Demonic steps to push further into the swarm.

Assault of the Mad God was the perfect technique to use in this situation. It didn't use any abilities that had a large area of effect so he wouldn't unnecessarily damage the surroundings. Just his raw power and speed were enhanced.

It was very similar to the 'Berserk' state that was inherited by some other races and creatures. Unless he was up against a significantly powerful opponent, he wouldn't feel any pain or discomfort until the 'Assualt' was over.

Zeng Wu's heart skipped a beat when he saw Hao Xuan vanish into the swarming creatures, "PUSH! he ordered the soldiers behind him and started circulating his own Qi as well.

His weapons were dual axes. The axes were covered by a purplish energy and every time he swung them, they would leave flaming archs in the air. It looked spectacular!

Shi Chun who was watching from the side couldn't help but have his own heart beat faster after watching Hao Xuan.

He turned around and looked at the two old men behind him with a wide smile, "Uncles, I want to fight too!"

The old men looked at each other and then at him. Seeing his resolute eyes, they agreed instantly. Shi Chun was the youngest and the most spoiled of all his siblings. His oldest brother really was too lax with him and let him do whatever he wanted. Instead of fighting and cultivating like the others, he chose to run around with his friends, capturing beasts and exploring new areas. No matter the reason, if he wanted to fight now, it was a great thing for the Shi Clan.

"Go, we will bring up the rear!" they nodded and took out their own weapons.

One of them had a massive black club with spikes all over it while the other had a spear that was even bigger than his own body.

Shi Chun waved his hand and a katana appeared in his hand. Its scabbard was snow-white with gold engravings on it.

The couple behind Ma Yu suddenly stopped mid-fight and looked towards Shi Chun and then at the katana, befuddled.

"So the rumors were true," one of them murmured.

Shi Chun held the scabbard with his left hand and stood in an attacking stance. As he placed his hand on the handle, a faint pressure appeared in the entire hall and every weapon shook once.

Zeng Yu looked towards the source of the pressure with knitted brows, "A living weapon! They sure went all out."

Shi Chun closed his eyes and started channeling his Qi into the katana. A clattering sound came from the scabbard and it sounded like the blade wanted to break out on its own. One of the old men saw this and said sternly, "Calm yourself. It can feel your anxiousness."

"Yes," Shi Chun nodded and took a deep breath. It took a couple of seconds but the clattering slowed down and then stopped. Seeing him relax, the old men nodded in approval.

Shi Chun rubbed the engravings on the scabbard with his left hand and whispered, "Please, fight with me."

There was no response from the katana but he didn't let it affect him too much.

He closed his eyes for a second and then opened them abruptly. The katana was pulled out in one smooth motion and a white energy wave shot forward like a laser beam. Everything in a radius of twenty meters in front of him was instantly cut into two. It didn't matter whether the energy wave hit them or not, every single creature in the vicinity of the energy wave was split from the middle.

Hao Xuan who was using one creature as a bat to beat others with it suddenly felt a cold chill go down his spine. He turned towards Shi Chun and knew exactly where that feeling was coming from as soon as he saw the katana in his hand. For some reason, the katana was leaking out killing intent and it was aimed at him.

"Why do I get the feeling it doesn't like me too much?" he mumbled.

"SCREEEEE"

The creatures saw him halt his advance and used the opportunity to regroup.

"Captain!" Zeng Wu shouted while cutting down two creatures at once. He came closer to Hao Xuan and said in a low voice, "We must retreat, there are way too many of them and more keep coming every minute. Our Qi reserves will run out and then we won't be a match for them," he said with pleading eyes.

Hao Xuan looked at the creatures that were keeping some distance from him now and couldn't help but let out a sigh. There were so many of them that he couldn't even see the coffins and statues underneath.

He could maintain Assualt of the Mad God for a few more minutes but there was no way he would be able to kill them all in that little bit of time.

"Fine, retreat," he waved his hand, giving up.

Zeng Wu couldn't hide his joy upon hearing that one word. If Hao Xuan hadn't agreed, he didn't know what else to do other than perhaps go against his orders, which was a very severe crime.

"RETREAT!" Zeng Wu shouted several times, making sure everyone heard it.
