Chapter 73 Sentenced to Death

The group had finally arrived in the courtroom. Yang Rong’s photo had already been exposed on the internet. As such, everyone could recognize her from a mile away. As soon as they saw the young girl stepping into the building, the reporters immediately crowded around her with microphones and cameras in hand. However, before they could get any closer, a group of suited men blocked them.

Yao Tang and the others walked expressionlessly behind her.

The court session would immediately commence at 10 AM.

Yang Rong saw a skinny middle-aged man sitting on the defendant’s bench. Immediately, her chest constricted, and her breathing became heavy. Her hands trembled as flashes of that night soared through her mind. “I’ll be okay,” she whispered. “I’ll be okay.”

Jiang Shen had already prepared all the evidence weeks ago, so he didn’t take long to finish his arguments. His words, as usual, were sharp and cold. Within just ten minutes, he had rebutted all the arguments shot by Cao Gang, silencing him completely.

Within an hour, the judge himself had finally made his decision.

Cao Gang was sentenced to death.

The trial was being live streamed online, as such, everyone was tuning in from the comforts of their homes.

As soon as they heard the decision, the residents of City A cheered. Finally! Justice had finally been served!

Yao Tang sat in the gallery, crossing her legs. Her fingers dug into her skin as she stared at Cao Gang with her freezing gaze. If looks could kill, the man would’ve already dropped dead.

He should’ve been dead twelve years ago. Her hands clenched into fists.

The trial had finally ended.

When Yao Tang and Yang Ronghad come out, they were immediately greeted by a bright young woman. She had an ID strapped around her neck as she stood in the courtroom. Long strands of hair fell to her sides, hiding the pen behind her ears.

“Yao Tang,” the woman shouted in greeting. However, when she saw the man standing beside her, she almost staggered back in surprise. “Young Master Cheng, you said something about doing an exclusive interview with someone today. Is it about today’s case?”

Cheng Yan nodded.

“Ah.” The woman blinked in delight. “What a coincidence. I also came here because someone else had asked me to.”

She nodded at Yao Tang.

Cheng Yan tilted his head in interest. She actually knew Beijing’s most valued reporter Song Han.

Song Han was the best reporter in the nation!

“I’ll give you around half an hour.” She shrugged. “We still have to go back to class.”

The reporter rolled her eyes. “Boss, I need to find a place first to do the interview. We can do it here, but then…”

Cheng Yan nodded. “Let’s go to my place. I have an apartment here, so it isn’t that far away.”

On the night of the trial, the national television channel blurred to life.

It was the two-minute video of Yang Rong’s exclusive interview.

During this time, City A’s high school was also conducting its evening study session.

Everyone immediately tuned in to Yang Rong’s interview, far too distracted to do their own homework.

There, they could see a seventeen-year-old girl seated on the couch with a gentle expression painted across her features. She tilted her head kindly as her hands folded onto her lap.

Do you have anything to say about this?” “Twelve years ago, that man had taken advantage of his mental illness certificate to avoid being sentenced to prison,” she slowly said. “My lawyer had tried his best to send him for twelve years, to which he succeeded. “It must’ve been difficult for you.”

“It was, but it’s in the past now. Everything is changing for the better.” She took a deep breath. “The only thing I can do now is to thank the friend who hasn’t given up on me.”

This time, she had finally smiled at the camera. “The law has always been used to protect the rights of all of us, and it shouldn’t be exploited by just about anyone.”

“The law is broad, but it shouldn’t allow for loopholes.”

“I’m very grateful for the recent improvements that the government has made. That way, the guilty would have nowhere else to run.”

As Yang Rong continued to speak, her eyes became cold. “With so many problems that we face today, we have no other choice but to improve our system. Let the guilty get the punishment they deserve. Mental illnesses shouldn’t be taken advantage of,” she stated. “And it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to do wrong.”

“Our laws are used to protect us. Every single one of us should respect it, just as we respect those who have created it.”

Song Han nodded thoughtfully. It seemed that the Big Boss had made the right choice in letting her interview her.

“We should all believe in the fairness of the law. Late is better than never,” she said strongly.

The case had attracted the attention of the entire country. Even the upper society had been surprised. Jiang Shen and Song Han were the top figures in their respective careers, and they had never acted rashly. Yet, they were here-at the same time for the same case.
