li shaobin watched as she read. he pulled the book away from her unhappily. “ruan yang, can you keep me company? i came over specifically to spend time with you, but you keep looking at your book.”

“i was just at the exciting part,” ruan yang said a little gloomily. “do you want to watch the tv?”

“no. i want to look at you.” li shaobin reached out to cuddle her without thinking. it was only when he reached over that the two of them froze in the realization that it was the first time he had cuddled her.

“not quite good. i just know a little,” ruan yang said. “i knew how to cook when i was in school. my parents had to go to work then, so i would always have to cook for myself after school.”

“huh? that’s such hard work.” li shaobin began to sympathize with her. “i would always play basketball with my friends after school. i didn’t even go into the kitchen. i wouldn’t even study when my mom told me to.”

ruan yang smiled lightly. a young master like him wouldn’t need to step into the kitchen. “go wait for me outside; i have to cook. you’ll distract me.”
