The man’s rejection was within her expectations. Chi Shuyan thought about it and decided to put herself first, for the sake of this man and the child in her stomach. As for Song Yanru, Chi Shuyan would contact Gu Yunzheng when the time came. She did trust in Gu Yunzheng’s abilities very much and believed that he should be able to deal with anything that might happen at the old Liang family residence.

It was a nice thought, but close to 3am in the middle of the night, Chi Shuyan received a call from Song Yanru. On the other end of the line, the woman didn’t stop crying as she pleaded, “Master Chi, can you help me one last time? I beg you, my right eyelid is twitching again tonight. I think something will definitely happen if I go there. Master Chi, I don’t believe in anyone else but you. Please, on account of our friendship, help me one more time.”

Chi Shuyan knew Song Yanru’s character quite well. If the other party really didn’t have a choice, she wouldn’t be begging so humbly and crying so hard. Her head hurt terribly.

Chi Shuyan didn’t agree. Song Yanru continued to cry pitifully and didn’t hang up.

Chi Shuyan couldn’t see the man’s expression, but she could hear the displeasure and chill in his tone. She could only explain dryly, “Hubby, I’ll just… be gone for a few days. C City isn’t far from the capital. I’ll be back in five days. I’ll be fine!”

After a pause, Chi Shuyan quickly added, “By the way, the child is three months old. I’ll definitely take care of myself and the child!”

Chi Shuyan made a series of promises, but unfortunately, the man next to her was silent for a long time.

Her attitude toward Song Yanru had also changed because of this. If it were before, she would have been fine with helping a friend, as Song Yanru was someone worth making friends with. After tonight’s phone call, however, Chi Shuyan felt that there was no need for the two of them to contact each other anymore after this visit to the old Liang family residence.
