“If I were thrown into the dungeon, would you be so worried for me as well?”

Bai Weiwei stared at him in shock, as though unable to comprehend his words.

And when these words left Arthur’s lips, he froze for a moment before realizing just how ridiculous they were.

Why did he care whether or not she would worry about him?

And if something really had happened to him, what was the use of her, a human being, worrying?

He had always been dismissive of useless things.

Before he could understand it, Bai Weiwei had already guiltily shifted her gaze, biting her lips in hesitation.

Then she answered weakly, “I would. You are my master.”

These words were completely lacking in confidence.

Naturally, Arthur could see that Bai Weiwei had said it without any sincerity, but a bit of his irritation dissipated.

How baffling.

Arthur thought this of himself.

But he still loosened his grip on her chin.

And the long fingernails retracted.

Then he abruptly turned around, commanding coldly, “Keep up.”

Bai Weiwei stood there blankly for several seconds before suddenly coming to a realization, and she immediately followed.

The conditions in the dungeon were particularly awful.

He maliciously introduced the facility.

Sure enough, Bai Weiwei paused in her tracks, gasping quietly in fear.

“That’s right, so many people died here. It’s said that some people died so miserably that their spirits remain1, and they wander the dungeon, searching for people to take their place2.”

It was complete nonsense.

Contained in his low voice was a dark sense of horror.

Arthur grinned at his successful prank. Then he quickened his pace, deliberately circling the dungeon three times before arriving at her brother’s cell.

And she was just like his little tail, unable to be shaken off.

Arthur triumphantly swaggered into the darkest cell.

Then he heard the little idiot’s cry for help.

“Sn-snake AHHH! DON’T COME OVER!”

The cries were truly wretched.

Bai Weiwei immediately let go of Arthur’s clothes and rushed over to the door of the cell, shouting anxiously, “Little Bai, are you alright?!”

Her anxious appearance was the standard look of a crazy brother’s servant.

Little Bai immediately lunged over to the door, face hideous with fright. “Sis, hurry and get me out! There’re so many snakes here!”

Bai Weiwei had a look of worry, but her eyes were apathetic. “Little Bai, Sis is also very worried about you.”

Worried that you’re living too well.

“Sis will save you, bear with it a little more.”

Bear with it until you die.

Her voice was full of anxiety and worry.

But her gaze when she looked at Little Bai showed the complete opposite emotion.

Even the smile on the corners of her lips wasn’t a worried smile at all, but a sneer of schadenfreude.

Fear and shock combined within Little Bai as he understood what she meant.

He immediately shot out his hands through the door and squeezed Bai Weiwei’s neck.

2: Raws say 替死鬼, which usually means scapegoat or stand-in, but it’s referring to when a (evil?) spirit remains in its place of death, and the only way it can escape from its suffering and return to the cycle of reincarnation is to have someone else’s soul take its place. From what I’ve seen, it’s usually by dying in the same way the original soul did (e.g., a drowned ghost killing its victim by also drowning them).↩
