Chapter 526: Autopsy

After they took down the Black Billy Goat, for the next 3 days, the number of global abnormal baby growth dropped tremendously. Be it at Phecda World or Mysterium World, the number of abnormal baby births was maintained at 3 to 40000 each day but for the past 3 days, it had dropped down to 20000, or a decrease of 1/4. The Black Billy Goat had 4 legs and now one was dead, this appeared to be the connection. And at Eastern State, the number of abnormal baby births had directly halved. There was not even one newborn who carried the presence of the foreign world with them. 

After the Black Billy Goat was attacked and lost one of its legs, it went into hiding. The giant creature was not dead, it merely escaped. There was a consensus between Gu Jun, Wu Siyu, Yu Chi and Deng Ximei that it would not perish so easily. Phecda expanded their exploration and Zoogs everywhere searched through the night for the creature and suspicious members. Whether the world had Shub-Niggurath worshippers, that was still unknown. While all these were happening, Gu Jun locked himself up inside a large morgue at Eastern State Phecda base. 3 days, 72 hours, there was autopsy after autopsy. 

Taking away the time needed for daily functions, Gu Jun rested once every 24 hours. He laid down on the couch inside the morgue, closed his eyes for 15 minutes and then he'd wake up and walk back to the autopsy table. The man was like a machine. The distance between the giant autopsy table and the couch was less than 10 metres. The horrible smell could permeate through the suit and the lights were on as other members continued to work on the autopsy. It was quite noisy.

A normal person wouldn't have been able to sleep in this environment. Even with high spirituality, before this, Gu Jun could not turn himself on and off like a switch. He always thought if someone could come up with that technology, they would win the Nobel prize. But now with the ability, Burning the Midnight Grave Wax, that was something he could accomplish easily. He laid down and went out like a light. He only needed 15 minutes to recover. Even though his body was still running on sleep debt, it did not affect his performance. This skill naturally improved his efficiency.

For the past 3 days, Gu Jun had worked non-stop, moving from the hoof to the knee. The quest completion rate also rose to 30 percent. If he could maintain this efficiency for the next 9 days, he'd complete this difficult mission. Of course, not only the quest rate had increased, his autopsy science experience climbed as well, moving from 1500 to 3800. A normal individual would be influenced when facing a dark creature, in serious cases, their S value would drop. Black Billy Goat was a darker creation than zombie and Deep One. Even experienced Special Mobile Force members would show signs of discomfiture after staring at it for too long. Therefore, those who participated in the autopsy, be it those in the morgue, or watching through the monitors had to take shifts. They had to take care of their mental states just in case someone suddenly went insane and stabbed their partners with knives. However, Gu Jun was the exception, the chaos within him would be digested by the power from the City of Dusk. He could maintain serenity, not only that he appeared to have entered a psychological 'flow'. 

During the autopsy, he did not want to be disturbed, he had thrown himself fully into the work, that was his whole world and his life was validated because of it. Gu Jun felt immense joy when he discovered a new organ. He would gain a sense of accomplishment when he named his new discovery. He had created something. The joy and accomplishment came from the autopsy.

After his autopsy science skill rose to level 2, the world opened up to him. According to autopsy textbook, "Topographic anatomy is a section of human anatomy, which studies layering structure of anatomical regions, their interposition (syntopy), projection on the skin (golotopy), relation to the skeleton (skeletopy), blood supply, innervation and lymph flow in normal and pathological conditions, taking into account the age, sex and constitutional peculiarities of the organism." Gu Jun achieved a new understanding of that statement and could feel the greatness of the science itself. Perhaps that was why he was able to work nonstop, a real passion would always make the time go by so fast. 

However, that was only limited to Gu Jun. Others could not survive on passion alone. Wang Ruoxiang, Cai Zixuan, Uncle Dan, they could only stay inside the morgue for at most 8 hours a day. Wu Siyu, Yu Chi and the others would drop in to visit but they would not stay longer than a few hours. The Zoogs did not even ask for the rewards. They simply wanted to stay away from the nightmare man. They would rather face another Black Billy Goat than stay near the midnight man and his dissecting knife.

4th, 5th, 6th, 7th day. Another 4 days passed. The whole week, the rhythm inside the morgue was kept even. Gu Jun was always there. The other members rotated but Gu Jun was the permanent fixture. Even though he did feel refreshed after each rest, the dark circles still appeared. They deepened with each passing day and he looked more exhausted by the day. Even though everyone knew Gu Jun had the aid from City of Dusk, they still worried about him. Elder Tong watched through the screen and asked whether Gu Jun would consider taking a longer rest.

"Why? Every second is precious." Gu Jun rejected any idea that told him to rest. He was fine. His hands weren't shaking, his legs weren't numb. He was still eating and stuff. Things were not serious so why rest…

The quest completion rate broke 65 percent and Gu Jun had 121 hours left. He had not one minute to waste, who knew what kind of accident could happen. Another 24 hours passed, Gu Jun was slicing through the calf when a wave of drowsiness claimed him. His bones felt like breaking and he had to stop to take a breath. He quickly put down the scalpel, walked towards the couch, laid down and closed his eyes. 15 minutes later, Gu Jun jumped up like a spring and walked back to the autopsy table. Once again, his colleagues looked at him like he was crazy.
