Chapter 523: Knife Skill

The Carlot Scalpel was only slightly longer than the common dissecting scalpel no. 23. Other than the carving on the hilt and the name Carlot, it was no different from a normal scalpel. Its material was still a mystery, current scientific knowledge was unable to identify it. So far, Gu Jun and Phecda had conducted plenty of experiments on it. Other than a handful of people, who had high spirituality, and Gu Jun who could perform a smoother autopsy with it, there was nothing too special about the scalpel. 

Everyone including Uncle Dan in the cabin and Xiao Huiwen back at the headquarters knew that. So when Xiao Huiwen saw Gu Jun pick up the scalpel to pick at the hoof, he assumed this young man had lost his mind and was only venting his anger… "Try freezing it again!" Xiao Huiwen said urgently, he really did not want such a precious sample to go to waste. "Even if its liquid form shows a supercooling effect, freezing might still slow down its cellular activity so we'd have more time…" It was worth trying. The other experts gave their opinions as well. If -20 did not work, then try -50 degrees. 

The most important thing was to preserve the sample. Even though they might not be able to dissect it for now, they could still use X-ray to study it. From that, they could get a better understanding of it. 

Gu Jun was like a child who refused to leave the toy store after he spotted a toy that he wanted but his parents refused to buy. He held the scalpel and lightly scraped against the surface of the black hoof. He did not move back as ordered but he did not make an incision either. Wang Ruoxiang who first suggested the freezing idea was given a look by others. She asked, "Gu Jun?" She had a feeling this was not that simple, Gu Jun was not just throwing a tantrum. This was no longer the Tycoon Jun that she knew.

"Wait, let him be." Wu Siyu stopped them. Compared to others, she was more in tune with Gu Jun's highly focused mental state. Wu Siyu shrugged when everyone turned towards her, "Even though I have no idea what he's doing, I know he's up to something."

Uncle Dan was after all a Spell Department member with years of experience. He too noticed how focused Gu Jun was. This kind of focus definitely warranted their respect. 

"I'm afraid if we do not stop him, the whole leg will dissolve." Xiao Huiwen could not help himself. What could a scalpel do when an electric saw could not even cut through the hoof?

Just as Xiao Huiwen finished, Gu Jun's right hand that held the scalpel shot outwards, the knife plunged into the bone surface of the toe!

With a strange voice, everyone saw with shock how the blade of the scalpel submerged into the hoof's phalanx. It had pierced through both skin and bone, managing a feat that even a high-efficiency saw could not. 

"This…" Xiao Huiwen's jaw dropped. He could not even finish his sentence. Did Gu Jun's saw not touch the hoof earlier? Was this a prank on him? But what about those sparks…

The cabin was silent. Many people were shocked. Wang Ruoxiang's eyes widened. Wu Siyu was right. Then without much hoopla, Gu Jun slowly eased his wrist. The blade carved through a larger portion of the bone surface. The blade still looked graceful despite the firm cut. It felt like Gu Jun was cutting through tofu. 

"Okay, you guys are safe now." Wu Siyu wanted to turn around to tell the Zoogs but the heavy suit made it hard for her to move. When she did turn around, she noticed the Zoogs had already disentangled from her to move closer to Gu Jun. 

A 5 cm crack appeared on the hoof. There was another black layer underneath the bone, there was something unique about it. Gu Jun made a sudden twist and carved out a 5cm times 5cm square on the bone surface. Looking at this, Xiao Huiwen's heart was strung up. He unwittingly held his breath, worried that his voice might interrupt Gu Jun… What kind of spell was this?

Wang Ruoxiang and the other Spell Department members did not sense any energy in the air. Gu Jun did not chant any spell either.

"It's the scalpel…" Wang Ruoxiang stared at the blade that was still inside the bone. The Carlot Scalpel!

Inside the cabin, only 2 people knew how to use the scalpel, one was Gu Jun and the other was Wang Ruoxiang. Wang Ruoxiang's mastery of it was definitely lesser than Gu Jun but she was better at it than Uncle Dan and the rest. She had a high spirituality and had been through many abnormal experiences, it aided her to wield the scalpel. It was not too long ago when she used the scalpel. As a member of the team to help Gu Jun increase his autopsy study, she was part of many autopsies. When Gu Jun rested, he'd lend her the knife to practice with it. So Wang Ruoxiang was able to quickly grasp the concept now. 

It was not a spell but skills and techniques. 

Wang Ruoxiang knew that Gu Jun was not that familiar with the secret of the Carlot instruments. He applied the scalpel, dissecting scissors and so on like normal tools. In fact, he could have used them for other purposes and it'd make no difference. And thus everyone thought that was all there were to the Carlot instruments…

But now Gu Jun had found a new usage and proved them wrong!

Wang Ruoxiang was inspired. She had heard of Carlot Academy, and what she was seeing now proved one of her hypotheses. Carlot Doctors were more than doctors who knew spells, they knew how to utilize amazing technique and medical power. Despite the fact that the foreign world was ultimately destroyed, for the current Earth, this was such a treasure. However, not everyone could share in Wang Ruoxiang's excitement when they saw that Gu Jun had finished the cutting of the bone flap. A scalpel that showed greater proficiency at cutting bones than skin? Why?

These questions were held off for now. The Zoogs were afraid but they could not pull their eyes away. Gu Jun grabbed the Carlot tweezers from his bag and used it to grab an edge of the bone flap. He then slowly pulled the bone flap back to reveal what was within…
