“Prime Minister Du has arrived?” Fu Guangling asked while instantly regaining his spirits. It was like his savior had just appeared. “Then why don’t you hurry up and invite him in?!”

“Yes, My Lord.” The imperial bodyguard accepted the order and left.

“All right. I have matters to discuss with the prime minister. All of you, please return home first,” Fu Guangling said.

“All right then. We’ll go back first. Lord Fu, you need to really consider Young Master Li!”

“And ours! You have to consider our clients too!”

“Mine too…...”

“I know. I’ll consider them when I have the time.” Fu Guangling waved his hand impatiently, gesturing for the women to leave quickly.

The matchmakers were unhappy about this, but they stood up and left in succession anyway. When the room regained a sense of quiet, Fu Guangling finally let out a sigh of relief.

“They’ve all come to make proposals for marriage?” Du Yunhan looked at the many matchmakers and sighed. His daughter had truly incredible foresight!

“That’s right. This young lady won first place in the competition, so those people all came here to propose a marriage with her for their client. Prime Minister Du, we’ve arrived. If you please.” The imperial bodyguard brought Du Yunhan and Du Xiuheng to the drawing room and gestured for them to enter.

When Du Yunhan and Du Xiuheng went inside, they saw Fu Guangling, who was sitting in the seat for the master of the house, looking like he had a headache.

“Prime Minister Du.” Fu Guangling stood up to welcome them.

“Lord Fu.” Du Yunhan cupped his hands together in greeting.

“Prime Minister Du, please have a seat,” Fu Guangling said. Then he noticed Du Xiuheng and was somewhat baffled as to why Du Yunhan had brought him over. “Prime Minister Du, why have you come here today?”

“Ahem. I had a little something to discuss with you, Lord Fu,” Du Yunhan said after recalling those matchmakers from a moment ago.

“Prime Minister Du, please speak.” Fu Guangling recalled that Du Yunhan normally did things swiftly and decisively like a strike of lightning or a gush of wind

. So why did he seem so awkward now?

“It’s like this… Those matchmakers from just before…”

Fu Guangling’s head ached once more the moment those matchmakers were mentioned. With a wounded appearance, he said, “It’s truly my wife who should be meeting with those matchmakers. However, she went out of the city today to go redeem a vow at the temple

. In the end, I was the only one who could meet with them. Do you know how much those matchmakers can talk? My head was exploding from all the noise they made. Seriously, I never saw them this proactive in the past, so why are they coming here in waves now?? Oh, right. Prime Minister Du, you said you had something to discuss. Is it a work-related matter?”

“It’s not a work-related matter. I have some personal matters to discuss with you,” Du Yunhan stated.

“Personal matters?”

“Yes,” Du Yunhan said and looked at Du Xiuheng for a moment. “I’ve come here today to propose a marriage as well!”

Fu Guangling’s mouth had gotten dry from talking, so he raised his cup to his lips and drank some tea. Just as he was doing so, he heard Du Yunhan’s words and choked on his tea, bursting into a spluttering cough. “Cough, cough……”

When he managed to suppress his cough, Fu Guangling looked at Du Yunhan and asked, “Prime Minister Du, you’re joking with me, aren’t you?”

“What joke would I be making with you?” Du Yunhan said as he glanced at the shocked Fu Guangling. “I’ve come here today to propose a marriage. Moreover, I’ve not brought a matchmaker over. I’ve brought the person in question instead.”

In the olden times, marriage proposals were generally done by a matchmaker. So the occurrence of this current situation where the person in question was brought to propose their marriage personally was likely a historical first.

“You mean Young Master Du?” Fu Guangling asked with his eyelids twitching twice.

“Mm, it’s this immature rascal. See if he’ll do—if he meets your requirements. If you think he looks all right to you, let’s marry set up the marriage!” It appeared that, after revealing his goal for today, Du Yunhan had calmed down and returned to his usual style of talking.

When Du Xiuheng heard his father’s words, a drop of cold sweat slid down his face.

‘Do people propose marriages like this?!!’

“Ahem, Young Master Du is brimming with talent and has boundless prospects. Naturally, I think he’s great,” Fu Guangling said. “But Prime Minister Du, why did you decide to come to propose the marriage today?”

“It’s all because of that daughter of mine. She said I had to come and propose the marriage today, to strike first and gain the upper hand. I was still thinking that she was just trying to scare me into taking action. Yet when I came here today, I found that so many others had already come to propose a marriage. So, what do you think? Is this rascal to your satisfaction?” Du Yunhan asked.

“Miss Du told you to come and propose the marriage?” Fu Guangling uttered in amazement.

“That’s right. That daughter of mine is really bizarre. She said she wants to have Miss Fu be her sister-in-law,” Du Yunhan said.

“Young Master Du wants to marry Yalan?” Fu Guangling questioned while looking at Du Xiuheng.

“Yes. I’ve met Miss Fu a few times at the banquets and have developed feelings of affection for her. I sincerely want to marry Miss Fu as my wife,” Du Xiuheng said with heartfelt emotions.

“I know Miss Du and my daughter have a very good relationship. After seeing her spend time with Miss Du, I noticed my daughter’s personality has become a lot more optimistic,” Fu Guangling said. “Since you, Prime Minister Du, think highly of my daughter and do not regard her with disdain for being unknowledgeable... I am naturally willing to let them get married.”

“This means you’re giving your approval, right? Hahaha, that’s great! Xiuheng, take the betrothal item out,” Du Yunhan said with a big laugh when he saw Fu Guangling also being straightforward about wanting to make this marriage happen.

Du Xiuheng took out his jade pendant and handed it to Du Yunhan.

“Someone go and bring over my daughter’s betrothal ornament,” Fu Guangling instructed his servants. Then he turned toward Du Yunhan and said, “I had no idea that I would be settling her marriage today, so the betrothal ornament is still in her room. I’ll have to trouble you to wait a while, Prime Minister.”
