“What has he been up to?” asked Shao Yibai.

“Mu Chenwu’s subordinates ambushed Sheng Yu Hospital two days ago. They attempted to kidnap Mrs. Mu. This was probably part of Mu Feng’s plan to use Mrs. Mu to trap Mu Chenyan!”

Yuan Xuan’s gaze turned piercingly cold when he mentioned Mu Chenyan.

“That woman could never think straight when her family is involved. I’m worried that Mu Feng might manipulate her when the time comes. We must ensure her safety before we launch our attack!”

Shen Muqiu sneered, “I’ll agree to help you, but you already know my conditions!”

Yuan Xuan knew that Shen Muqiu lived on the edge. He had gotten used to Shen Muqiu’s penchant for setting conditions for everything long ago. After all, he had known him for many years.

“Yuan Tian isn’t a little girl anymore. She can make her own decisions!”

Yuan Xuan’s tone was cold. Shen Muqiu was being very straightforward about his goal, but Yuan Xuan hated it when others tried to pressure him.

Shen Muqiu’s gaze was dark and cunning.

Shao Yibai looked on in disgust at the man’s savage behavior.

“Shameless!” Shao Yibai snorted. “I could destroy the remaining members of the Mu Family without your forces…”

Shen Muqiu huffed when he heard Shao Yibai’s remark. “Do you really think that we could just depend on you? You’re merely a soldier!”

“Damn! I nearly shot you to death. Do you really think that you should be laughing at a soldier like me? I should’ve gotten rid of you then and there. I allowed a scumbag like you to escape but you’re just spewing nonsense everywhere!”

Shao Yibai could not stand to look at Shen Muqiu’s face. He abandoned his poise and focused on personal attacks instead.

It was happening again! Yuan Xuan was terribly worried.

Mr. Shao should have minded his words before he called Shen Muqiu a “scumbag”. Why would Yuan Xuan ask a scumbag to fight for him…

Yuan Xuan waved his hands to calm Shao Yibai down. “You’re a righteous man. However, we can’t just rely on your lawful connections if we’re planning to destroy someone like Mu Feng. Shen Muqiu’s forces aren’t based locally, so he can leave right away once everything is over. We won’t have to worry about any problems in the future!”

Shen Muqiu was extremely pleased. He raised his eyebrows at Shao Yibai. He was implying that people like Shao Yibai were clearly useless because they followed the established rules strictly. Meanwhile, Shen Muqiu was free to do whatever he liked…

Shao Yibai nodded. He was burdened with a difficult task now. He was unsure whether his old man’s forces would be sufficient. If they were not up to the mark, he would need to return to Capital City to assist them personally.

Shen Muqiu thought about it for a moment when he heard that. He asked, “Have you decided on a time and place to carry out this operation?”

Yuan Xuan replied without any hesitation. His murky eyes were fixed on the nearby scenery.

Zheng Shuyan’s case was basically settled. The drugs discovered in the sugar cubes were an exact match to the ones that had used to poison Yuan Zhe. The suspect’s confession corresponded with the evidence as well. It was just that Zheng Shuyan’s surrender seemed too much like a coincidence. There was an indescribable yet conflicting feeling in Wu Huai’s heart.

The final matter was to transfer this case to the judicial authorities for them to press charges. This case would be rather tricky to handle because Yuan Tangzhong was breathing heavily down their necks.

Nonetheless, the staff of the major crimes department could finally relax now that they had completed their task.

“Captain Wu, you should take us out for a treat!”

Little Jiang had always been one of the livelier members of the team. When could they ask the captain for a reward if not now?

Wu Huai also felt that it would be alright to go out and have a little celebration. After all, everyone had worked hard these past few days.

The crowd was speechless.

The members of the criminal police force who were usually serious and restrained had grown sluggish and relaxed once they had sung and drank merrily. They shouted and pumped their fists. The lively atmosphere was filled with the sound of happy chatter.

Mu Chenyan was secretly troubled by this. After all, this joyous occasion was only happening because Zheng Shuyan was arrested.

Her mind was burdened, and she had a hard time breathing because of the smoke. She decided to go outside for some fresh air.

This was the biggest and most upscale venue in Luo Hai. She could tell that Wu Huai came from an influential background. He had chosen the best place to take his guests out for a treat.

Mu Chenyan walked along the corridor before she found a quiet corner in the venue and leaned against the wall. There was a transparent French window that allowed her to look down at Luo Hai’s bustling, brightly-lit nightscape from above.

“Leave me alone…”

Mu Chenyan returned to her senses when a familiar female voice echoed along the long corridor behind her. A woman was stumbling along in the dark. She seemed rather tipsy.

“Why are you disturbing me… You have your Little Chenyan… I know that you don’t care about me… Am I right? Grandmother said… She wants you to divorce her… You can marry me once you’ve left her…”

Shu Qinger sobbed quietly. She cried as she desperately hit the man who was trying to hold her. Mu Chenyan felt as though her heart had dropped into an icy hole when she recognized the man…

Yuan Xuan furrowed his eyebrows. His expression was obscured in the dim light, but the contours of his face could be seen clearly.

Shu Qinger wailed and kicked up a big fuss. Her slightly torn clothes made her a pitiful sight. It seemed like she had ripped it on purpose.

She sounded miserable when she said, “You’re lying… Why did you save me… Don’t you feel like you’re indebted to me now…”

Mu Chenyan could not understand what she was rambling about. Her head was only filled with the sweet nothings that Yuan Xuan whispered in her ear during one of their happier moments. “Little Chenyan, I suffer from germophobia but… I’m obsessed with your body. It’s the only thing that I’ll never reject… I can’t get enough of you…”

That irritating man was actually making an exception now. He picked up the troublesome woman up and carried her toward the elevator…

So much for his germophobia!
