“Does it still hurt?”

Seeing that she had almost finished eating, Yuan Xuan asked her.

Briefly stunned, Mu Chenyan lowered her almond-shaped eyes. She pondered for a long time without a sound before realizing that he was asking about her face.

She stroked her cheek. It was searing with pain earlier but she could not really feel the pain now because she had exerted herself while chewing.

Mu Chenyan lowered her head and silently smiled. Thinking that she was still in pain, Yuan Xuan could not help but lean forward to take a closer look.

Mu Chenyan could smell the faint peppermint smell from the man as he got closer to her. Her nostrils were instantly filled with his scent that made her entire body reacted in an unnatural manner!

She suddenly raised her head and directly met the affectionate gaze in the man’s profound eyes, indicating that he was truly caring for her.

Mu Chenyan retreated. She shook her head once she was within a safe distance from him. In a calm manner, she softly asked, “Why would a minor issue like this matter? When I was inside, which of the beatings that I suffered weren’t worse than this?”

The hand that Yuan Xuan had extended outward paused stiffly in mid-air. He gritted his teeth and spatted out the words one-by-one asking, “Who hit you?”

When she saw Yuan Xuan’s look of disbelief, Mu Chenyan suddenly felt like laughing. However, her forbearing nature caused her to forcibly suppress that smile. Nonetheless, traces of a sneer faintly appeared at the corners of her mouth!

Yuan Xuan lowered his eyes, which were as dark as ancient ponds. They surged like great waves as Mu Chenyan’s brief words agitated him!

Before waiting for Mu Chenyan’s reply, he asked again, “You said that someone hit you in prison?”

Mu Chenyan obviously did not want to answer this question. Her coldly elegant little face was now red because of her emotions that sharply rose and fell. Seeing that she was pretending to be calm on the surface, Yuan Xuan’s heart twisted into a knot.

He felt helpless with Mu Chenyan’s indifference and could only return to his seat slowly. This was the first time his heart was shrouded with panicked emotions!
