Chapter 159 - It’s Been a While, Nine-Tailed Fox
Chapter 159: Chapter 159 – It’s Been a While, Nine-Tailed Fox
Although Ren Suo wanted to find a chance to ask about the plot he missed, everything happened too quickly when they disembarked the plane, and Ren Suo did not have any chance to be alone with Dong Chengling.
They were swiftly taken to a secret medical institution in Tianjing City, where several Practitioners, who were at least second-tier, cast their abilities and quickly solved the problem of Ren Suo and Dong Chengling being connected together by the Reiki meridian.
It was actually not difficult to resolve such a problem where the Reiki was unconsciously intertwined—utilizing stronger Reiki energy would eventually melt the connection between them, just like licking a popsicle with a warm tongue…
Almost all of those Practitioners were key holders, and Ren Suo’s heart could barely resist the strong feelings of attraction towards them due to the significant difference in skill.
Speaking of which, Ren Suo had physical contact with Dong Chengling for such a long time and yet he did not hear any information about retrieving the key. He must have acquired the key when he was still unconscious.
Ren Suo thought that his business there was done after he was separated from Dong Chengling. He could, probably, quickly head home to look at his new key and the free games for the month of June. However, Ren Suo was told that “further observation is required” and was forced to stay put in the underground medical facility and enjoy days without connection to the outside world.
In order to provide Ren Suo with something to do, the facility actually provided a device to increase the surrounding Reiki energy and a Knowledge Web crystal which he could log in to.
Ren Suo logged in to the Knowledge Web and found that he had received his Reiki stones for the previous month. As a researcher, an emergency doctor of the Heavenly Institution of Lianjiang, a special advisor to the Naisser Ren Special Task Force, and a special advisor to the Countermeasure Division, he earned a total of 460 Reiki stones. In addition to the 50 Reiki stones he was given initially; he now had a grand total of 510 Reiki stones.
The first chapter of “The Secret Records of Glorious Xuan” required 400 Reiki stones. Knowing that he would otherwise have nothing to do, he decided to exchange his stones for it.
Just like how learning abilities were directly infused in memories, the first chapter of “The Secret Records of Glorious Xuan” formed ripples amidst the sea of memories in Ren Suo’s mind, becoming second nature to his neurons. Ren Suo sat cross-legged on the Practice futon and naturally began practicing The Secret Records of Glorious Xuan.
The Secret Records of Glorious Xuan was extremely complicated, and it took 19 times longer than the advanced Practice technique to complete one full cycle. However, Ren Suo ran out of energy before he could even finish one cycle.
“The Secret Records of Glorious Xuan is not as easy as the abilities…” Ren Suo thought as he sighed in his heart. “If I were at home, the Secret Records of Glorious Xuan would probably have become an ability, and I would have been able to equip it directly to Practice it…”
Days passed as Ren Suo continued trying hard to Practice the Secret Records of Glorious Xuan. Seeing that there was no one around, he activated [Unlimited Energy] and equipped the [Hat of Practice and Cultivation] and spent four full days before he finally completed one successful cycle.
If there had been no noises from digging at night, Ren Suo would definitely have been able to Practice faster.
After completing one successful cycle, Ren Suo could feel his Reiki energy become stronger. At the same time, he enabled more Reiki to be infused into his body, which made him feel comfortably numb all over. Being able to feel himself gradually becoming stronger, Ren Suo felt slightly excited.
“It’s no wonder they are obsessed with Practicing, feeling such pleasure is no less than leveling up in a game!”
However, Ren Suo eventually slacked off. As much as it felt extremely pleasant after successfully completing one full cycle, the fatigue and aching of the muscles were overwhelming. He would not be able to persevere through the full cycle unless he activated [Unlimited Energy].
Just as Ren Suo was beginning to suspect that he had been forgotten, his bedroom door was suddenly opened one night, and two personnel of the Countermeasure Division appeared.
“Researcher Ren, Chief Ma needs your assistance,” they said.
“Chief Ma?” Ren Suo, who had been Practicing, said. He was surprised and asked, “Aren’t I a patient?”
Bewildered, Ren Suo followed them out of the bedroom. On the way, they passed by a few people who were carrying two cages covered by black cloth and were heading deeper into the medical facility.
Ren Suo looked back as he passed them and suddenly looked up to observe the ceiling of the medical facility.
This ceiling, this wall…
“We are here.”
Ren Suo arrived in front of a large, empty space. Dong Chengling, whom he had not seen in several days, was standing in the center of the space, along with quite a few other people. Beyond the boundary of the large space, various electrical wires were laid all over the ground and numerous types of instruments that were unknown to Ren Suo were set up.
Ren Suo somewhat knew what was going to happen. He walked to the center of the space and a middle-aged man, who was standing next to Dong Chengling and talking to the other personnel, turned to greet Ren Suo. He stretched out his hand politely and said, “Hello, Researcher Ren, I am Zhao Jinhong, the chief of the Endangered Elves Protection Division under the Countermeasure Division of Tianjing under the Countermeasure System. You may call me Lao Zhao.”
“This time, Practitioner Dong would need your assistance in activating her Awakened Ability, and on behalf of the Countermeasure Division, I request for your help.”
Ren Suo’s pupils shrank but he immediately nodded his head. Lao Zhao turned to face Dong Chengling and said, “Practitioner Dong, this is an urgent matter. Would you be able to start now? We must hurry and arrive before Fanying Nation does!”
“I will,” Dong Chengling said as she turned around. She stretched out her delicate hand to Ren Suo as if an invitation to dance.
After a few days apart, Dong Chengling appeared even more attractive and he could faintly smell a pleasant scent from her. The magnificence and strength of her Awakening seemed to have been fully elevated to another level.
“Researcher Ren.”
“Ren Suo.”
Lao Zhao and Dong Chengling both urged Ren Suo to hurry. Ren Suo already knew the role he played in the game, so he did not ask anything and put his left hand on Dong Chengling’s right hand.
The moment his hand touched hers, a familiar feeling washed over Ren Suo again. This time, however, it was a sense of order, not chaos.
“Target location has been set.”
“Reiki transmission is complete.”
“Interference has been resolved.”
The logistic team outside the area signaled for them to begin after three consecutive checks.
Dong Chengling turned her head and looked at the empty space in front of her as she lightly drew a line in the air with her hand.
Ren Suo instantly felt that he became a channel for Reiki to flow. The Reiki passed through a mysterious channel in his body into Dong Chengling, and he became an important source of energy for her to cast her Awakened Ability.
The entire space erupted into a violent Reiki storm. It had no effect on anyone, and instead, the Reiki gushed endlessly into the line in the air Dong Chengling drew.
A black opening appeared in the space where she drew a line.
“Help me.”
Dong Chengling seemed to think that Ren Suo knew what to do without any further guidance.
And truly, Ren Suo knew how to open the tear in the space, having already witnessed it once.
Dong Chengling and Ren Suo stood in front of the opening. With his right palm facing upwards and Dong Chengling’s left palm facing downwards, they inserted their palms into the opening together.
“Don’t be nervous, just move according to your intuition.” Dong Chengling continued, “I’m here.”
There was no way that Ren Suo could not be nervous, but it was not because of Dong Chengling or his involvement in casting the ability.
It was the thought of what was behind the opening that made him breathe more rapidly.
Easy.
Ren Suo lifted the opening upwards as Dong Chengling pulled it downwards.
With that, the eye-like opening was ripped open by them.
On the other side of the opening, it was the scene of a bustling night in Fanying Nation that Ren Suo once saw.
The scenes he once saw on the screen now appeared before him.
And the character he once controlled now appeared before him.
He looked up at the seductive eyes glancing towards the souls on the ground in the distance.
It was descending down from the sky on its butterfly-paved steps, as if a deity descending to the mortal world.
It’s been a while, Nine-tailed Fox. It has been… almost half a month?
