She woke up instantly. Cheng Qingchong's body tensed, and her hands that were under the cover gripped the mattress tightly while her eyes scanned him guardedly. Qin Yinan pulled his tie off and let it fall on the empty side of the bed. His gaze that looked out the corner of his eyes accidentally met her.

He paused for a moment before turning to face her.

Qin Yinan had been facing away from Cheng Qingchong earlier, so she didn't have a close look of his face. As his eyes landed on her, she realized his hair was unkempt, his face was lined with tiredness, and his eyes were ringed with dark circles. In essence, it seemed like he was deeply troubled.

In Cheng Qingchong's mind, Qin Yinan had always been clean in his appearance; it was rare for him to appear so slovenly. Cheng Qingchong frowned, and shock flashed across her eyes. The fear and anxiety she felt when she first saw Qin Yinan was gradually replaced by confusion and curiosity.

Qin Yinan left in a hurry so early in the morning after receiving that call, and he returned in such a devastated state. Did he run into some big trouble?

Cheng Qingchong looked at Qin Yinan with her lips pressed to stop herself from asking that question.

Qin Yinan's eyes only fell on Cheng Qingchong for a minute before he turned his head away and raised his hands to remove the button of his shirt. Perhaps it was because he knew she was awake, but his gaze would keep fluttering her way.

Cheng Qingchong stared at him unblinkingly like she was petrified.

Qin Yinan was made awkward under her unyielding stare. He frowned slightly and walked away toward the bathroom. However, he only took two steps before the phone he left on the bed started to ring.

Qin Yinan stopped walking, and he faced away from Cheng Qingchong for two seconds before he turned back around. Without a glance at Cheng Qingchong, he bent over to pick up his phone. He glanced at the ID, and when he realized it was from his secretary, his eyes dimmed. He didn't answer it in a hurry but only did so when he was out of the bedroom.

Just as he closed the door, Cheng Qingchong lying in bed could hear his whispered voice saying, "How is it? Can you contact CEO Zhou…"

As the door closed, silence returned to the room. Cheng Qingchong turned her body in bed to lie on her back. As she looked at the ceiling, a twist of anxiety started to form in her heart. Her woman's instincts told her that Qin Yinan had definitely run into some big trouble.

She knew she shouldn't have to worry about Qin Yinan, considering the things that he had done to her, but she couldn't control her heart.

Cheng Qingchong bit on her lips before pulling the cover off and getting out from bed. She snuck to the bedroom door and twisted the door knob open carefully to let the door open slightly ajar.

Qin Yinan's voice came from the balcony attached to the living room. "…Try your best. If you can't then so be it, I've already prepared for the worst…"
