Qin Yinan walked toward Cheng Qingchong unconsciously to inspect her wound, but as he squatted down before her and reached out his hands toward her, she hugged the thin blanket to her body and curled deeper into the sofa like he was some kind of monstrosity. Her whole body was shaking, and her wet eyes followed his movement cautiously.

Qin Yinan's arms stopped in midair. He stared unblinkingly at Cheng Qingchong for a long time and swallowed deeply before pulling his hands back. Then, he stood up in a hurry and dropped a sentence in an airy tone. "Remember to take the pill—I don't want a certain someone to use a child to leverage responsibility over me again!"

Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Cheng Qingchong's body shake violently when he said that, and her face turned even whiter than the color of the walls. He felt like he had imagined it, but his heart also quivered with pain.

This feeling made him nervous and worried. He rushed back into the bathroom without hesitation, turned on the cold shower, and started to clean himself.

When Qin Yinan came out of the bathroom, Cheng Qingchong was incredibly quiet; it seemed like she had fallen asleep. Qin Yinan stood before the sofa, staring at her sleeping face for a while, and there was an urge that rose within him to walk toward her, pull her into a hug, and carry her into bed with him.

However, he only took the first step before he resisted it. He turned and walked back to the bed.

The night had fallen, and it was quiet. Qin Yinan listened to the ticking of the clock on the wall, and he didn't feel like sleeping at all.

It was not until morning that he managed to drift off to sleep. However, he soon woke up because he felt the need to use the bathroom. When he opened his eyes, before he even got up, he saw Cheng Qingchong had already awakened. Hugging the thin blanket, she sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, staring out the sky that was still dark.

He forgot the fact that he had to use the bathroom and lost himself staring at her. He stared at her for a long time, and in that long period of time, she didn't even blink once. His eyes that stared at her had gotten sour with tears, but the woman had remained as still as before. There was an emptiness in her eyes that unhinged him.

Her face was pale.

The sky outside started to become bright. When the first ray of the sun landed on her face, it cast her skin in an eerily white glow. It was then that she blinked slowly and got up in a slow motion from the sofa.

She didn't turn toward the door as she dragged her battered body of the bedroom and closed the door lightly behind her.

As the door closed with a click, Qin Yinan's pupils turned slowly. He sat up in bed to look at the vacated sofa. He got down from bed to use the bathroom. When he was done, for some reason, he wandered over to where she sat earlier and sat down to look out the window that she was looking out earlier.

There was nothing interesting other than the blinding light of the new sun. However, Qin Yinan still sat there for a long time. When he stood up, his hand brushed up against something wet. He turned to look and realized the thin blanket the woman had kept wrapped around her body had a huge wet stain.

He knew that was her tears. She must have cried through the night to be able to drench the whole blanket in her tears.
