The very next day, Lu Xinyi found herself preparing before she and Shen Yi took them back from Madam Shen’s care. She adored the twins, and sometimes, she wished she didn’t have to attend Silver Leaf to focus on her little family. She had packed a small lunch bag for the twins and packed several sweets for Madam Shen to try.

Glancing at the mirror for the last time, she smoothed down her white dress and smiled at her reflection. Since meeting and marrying Shen Yi, she noticed that smiling and being happy had come to her naturally, especially if he and the children were around. After being alone for several years, she had found her home where her heart belonged to.

After spending quite some time observing her husband, Lu Xinyi had discovered what food he liked and disliked, even the style and color of clothes he preferred to use on each occasion. She had made sure to dress well and use clothes that he would approve even though she never asked for his opinion.

Her white off-shoulder dress had fitted her nicely. It actually came from Xia Yuhan’s latest collection that she’d forced to give her yesterday. It showed off her nice smooth shoulders while keeping a subtle innocence in her appearance. The hem was embroidered with plum blossoms with the petals scattered on her skirt, gradually getting smaller the higher they got.

Lu Xinyi was immensely pleased with her dress and decided to put her hair up on a high ponytail, with some loose locks framing her face.

“Ready when you are,” she said as she walked down the stairs, her heels clicking on the floor.

Shen Yi, who was patiently waiting for his wife, tugged at his shirt collar and stopped talking to his brother on the phone. He looked up, only to see that she was indeed ready as she took the bag of desserts from the kitchen.

Ah, last night was such a blast. That was the best form of ‘thank you’ he received in his life.

He was half-tempted to scoop his wife and take her back to their bedroom to have a repeat of what they did last night. He was so glad the twins weren’t staying with them as she screamed his name in pleasure. And when her body slumped on his in equal satisfaction, he couldn’t help but feel aroused once more.

He was still trying to convince himself that he could wait for Lu Xinyi for two years, but Shen Yi knew that it was impossible. With the twins now part of their lives, he couldn’t possibly live with them while Lu Xinyi wasn’t around to help him. Thinking about it, he was now seeing single parents raising their child or children alone with respect and high regards. Raising a child wasn’t a walk in the park, and parenthood wasn’t as easy.

Shen Yi still insisted that he wasn’t jealous or possessive of his wife and had been trying to tell himself that it was okay to share her affections with the children. A short while later, they arrived at the Shen Mansion, and he could only watch as the twins came running down from their room when they heard that Lu Xinyi arrived, with Shen Xue behind them.

“Hey, Big Sis! Please take back these two with you. I don’t think I can play with them anymore,” Shen Xue complained. For the past week, the twins had spent their playing time with him, forcing him to play with them and threatening him to tell their mommy not to give him food anymore. How come his brother’s attitude rubbed off on the twins, too?

Lu Xinyi laughed and handed him a container with sweet desserts she made earlier.

“Here. Take this as a reward for your hard work, Uncle Xue.”

Shen Xue’s eyes sparkled with delight. His Big Sis was the best! Removing the cover of the container, he almost cried when he saw a frozen ice cream cake inside.

“Mommy!” Both Shen Yuyan and Shen Zhichen beamed as they hugged each of Lu Xinyi’s leg as if afraid that she would leave them again.

“Hello,” Lu Xinyi greeted back and kneeled down at their level. She was showered with hugs and kisses from the twins as she giggled. “I miss you, too. Did you behave well?”

Both children nodded their head as they looked up on their adoptive mother.
