Chapter 99 - Casually Strolled Out

The person who had walked into the restaurant way past the appointed time was not Shen Yue but Chen Yi.

The person who had aggrieved, tortured expressions was also not Chen Yi but Shen Yue.

However, the person who appeared fresh with a pink complexion was definitely Chen Yi.

"You said fifteen minutes!" The moment Chen Yi came into view, Shen Yue erupted.

Chen Yi nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders. "I said that in case things didn't worsen. But things did worsen." She had to finish all the pastries. What could be a worse emergency than that? She made sure to relish each one of them slowly and thoroughly.

Shen Yue took a deep breath. Stretching her lips into a fake smile, she motioned to Chen Yi. "Please take a seat. Let's discuss the contract."

The little assistant was ready to bash at Chen Yi. When her boss didn't try to pursue the matter, she was bewildered. Shouldn't Shen Yue discipline her a little? Why was she being so tolerating of her?

Wearing a small smile, Chen Yi took a seat. "How came I'm being offered a contract directly. Isn't standard procedure for the Fu Entertainment is first to take an interview of some sort at least?"

Shen Yue paused, taken aback. Glancing up at Chen Yi, she could tell that this woman was young, barely above her twenties. She shouldn't be having any extensive knowledge of any such procedures of the agencies. 

Shen Yue cleared her throat. "Yes, but there is an exception. It's just we have this new policy, we will take in trainees and use our resources on them. You do not need to be concerned about your expertise. Your superficial looks are fine, they would suffice for any of your lackings."

Chen Yi hid a sneer. Wasn't this agent words were akin to a serving bitterness layered with a thin film of sweetness. Saying that she was chosen only because of her looks and her skills must be lacking without even interviewing her first. 

That move was intended to lower the artiste self-worth in her own eyes so that she would readily accept their offer and easily be exploited.

But Chen Yi was not some novice.

After reading through the contract, Chen Yi laughed. "What the hell is this?" She could not believe it.

"Do you find anything out of your comfort? We can discuss that." The incisive gaze from Chen Yi put Shen Yue in dismay. Shen Yue had hoped that after getting her hands on the contract and checking the basic income, Chen Yi would excitedly sign it off. 

That was how Shen Yue had, at countless instances, trapped young artistes into unbreakable bounds of the contract. 

Usually, the younger ones are not very sharp thus easy to exploit.

However, that did not appear to be the case with this swine.

Chen Yi silently placed the contract down and raised her eyebrow. "I might be young but I am not stupid. What kind of intentions you have to propose something like this to me?" Chen Yi's lips curled up. "Do you really intend to work with me or you want a slave for your replacement shoots?"

Shen Yue assumed an air of a professional. "Miss Chen, you are young so I am willing to ignore your lack of respect. But one thing you have to understand is that people don't rise to fame overnight. Someone the smallest step in the right direction ends up becoming the biggest step in your whole life. And the journey to the thousands of miles indeed starts with that smallest step."

Chen Yi was intrigued. Indeed, Fu Entertainment was not lacking in talented people. Talented and slick tongued. If she was the same as before, she would have been easily tricked by her. "Unfortunately I have enough knowledge to see that this step you are enticing me to take leads to nowhere."

Chen Yi made it obvious that she did her research before coming here and Shen Yue could not exploit her.

Shen Yue observed the resolute gaze of the woman; there was an undertone of deep intelligence. She realized she could not persuade Chen Yi into signing the contract. "Fine! State the terms you have a problem with. We can discuss." She relented, not eagerly though. If she had managed to make her sign this contract, she was sure she could make Chen Ying and CEO happy

Ten minutes later.

Shen Yue slammed her hands down over the table. "Miss Chen, do you think we are here, playing some kind of joke?!" Shen Yue had tried all to keep her composure. But this woman finally ended up snapping her.

Chen Yi laughed. "You tell me, Miss Shen. Are you here to play some joke on me?" In an amused tone, she returned the question.

Shen Yue took a deep breath. "What you are asking, it is simply not possible."

"Is it not now?"

"Ms. Chen, I can agree with the rest of your terms but independently taking on projects? This is beyond ridiculous. I can't do that. You need to understand if there is even any other company that, let's be realistic, there won't be any who would sign you in considering your zero past record." Derision appeared in Shen Yue's eyes. "They won't let you sign a contract with this condition you demand." Shen Yue said sternly, her tone revealed she won't tolerate any modification in that term. To add pressure, she even called to her assistant. "Tell her it is not possible."

"Mam is right. What Ms. Chen is asking is totally out of our ranges."

Traces of a sneer unfolded at the corner of Shen Yue lips. She was certain that after being denied plainly, Chen Yi would be forced to reconsider. To further pressurize her, Shen Yue went ahead and gathered the files as if about to stand up and leave. 

She was expecting to hear Chen Yi beg her to stop.

However, Chen Yi, once again, surprised her by standing up before Shen Yue could. "Then Ms. Shen, you wasted my times." Smirking down at the astonished pair of the manager and the assistant, Chen Yi casually strolled out without the tiniest bit of reluctance.

Wasn't this great?

Being told by an unknown artiste that you wasted her time?
