Chapter 142 - Suspicious Date

Back at home, Chen Yi was met with another surprise.

"What do you mean I get ready?"

"I am taking you out." Li Luxian replied, succinct and sparing the words to explain anything. 

The question 'why' was almost at the tip of her tongue before Chen Yi stopped herself. She knew what his excuse was going to be. 

'It is to put an act before his family.'

Chen Yi had a feeling as long as they were in the Li family house, Li Luxian could use this excuse every time to force her to do anything. Thinking back to her promise to Li Shanguaan and how they were not going to go back to their apartment anytime soon, Chen Yi's mood worsened. 

Li Luxian treated Chen Yi wrathful glare as thin air and went back to work on his laptop,

"What are you waiting for? We depart in thirty minutes. You should know I don't like when things get delayed." Those were simple words. But Chen Yi could hear hidden taunts in his tone.

As if he was mocking her. 'You have been ignoring me without any fear all along. What are you going to do now?'

Chen Yi pressed her lips into thin lines, she narrowed her eyes at the dismissive devil who was definitely laughing in his head. "Would President Li at least tell me where are we going?" When Li Luxian didn't reply, she added. "So that I can dress accordingly?"

"No."

Chen Yi felt like hitting someone. 

"Just wear something comfortable. There won't be anyone where I am taking you." Li Luxian took pity looking at Chen Yi who appeared to have suffered a great injustice. "Besides, my wife is cute naturally. Won't matter what she wears, she would always steal the spotlights."

If Chen Yi felt like hitting someone before, now she felt like killing someone.

"President Li doesn't need to be cheezy. I will get ready then." She rebutted before walking into the closet to fish out something comfortable. 

Right thirty minutes later, Li Luxian snapped closed his brand new laptop. The last one was smashed to pieces owing to their fight. This one was leading a delicate life.

As he looked up, he couldn't help but smile. Chen Yi really took it to mind when he said she could wear anything casual. Chen Yi wore skinny jeans with a white double-layered, gauzed shirt. Although it appeared casual, her selection was perfect. The fabric though soft and comfortable, hugged her slim figure. She appeared slender, taller, and beautiful. Her chocolaty hair was tied into a messy bun.

"As I said before, my wife looks beautiful no matter what she wears."

Chen Yi's smile vanished. 

She put the most low-key attire she could find in this goddammit closet just to make the Devil realize she wasn't giving any thought to this so-called 'date' to dress up prettily and he just praised her?!

Never mind her efforts.

With a grumbling face, Chen Yi followed Li Luxian out. After bidding farewell to Li Shanguaan who seemed to have blossomed vibrantly upon learning that Li Luxian was taking her out, they headed for the parking area.

"Heh, are you going to drive?" Chen Yi blinked in confusion when Li Luxian dismissed Zhang Yufan. 

"Scared I would crash the car distracted by my beautiful wife?"

Chen Yi smile put on a strained smile. "That won't happen." What was wrong with him?

Chen Yi realized he was no longer angry at her avoidance. But did he have to be flirting every other sentence?

Li Luxian chuckled before guiding Chen Yi in. Closing the door for her, he walked to the other side and took the drive set. Kicking the engine to life, he smoothly guided the car out into the main road.

Warm and snug silence pervaded the car interior. Chen Yi pulled down her door's glass and put her chin over her wrist. Letting the cool breeze refresh her, she started humming a tone. a few strands of her hair unraveled and flew backward along with the air.

Li Luxian observing through the side had an itch to tug them back beside her ear. Suppressing the urge, for now, he focused on driving,

Time ticked by. 

Chen Yi ran out of tones to hum. When she grew bored, she started looking up the time. Not being able to endure any longer, she asked. "How long would it take?"

"Special places require time. Patience."

"Why did you not let Zhang Yufang drive? You are not used to driving such long hours."

He didn't let Zhang Yufan because he wanted privacy with his wife. But Li Luxian had a feeling if he told Chen Yi this, she would react badly. "Are you worried about me?"

Chen Yi made a face. "I'm just worried we would be stuck in the middle of nowhere." Now Chen Yi said this, she noticed they were indeed heading towards some remote place.

They have passed the population and traffic long ago. There was only silence and dark, lush forest on both sides of the wide, vacant road that led to god knew where. 

It was just like those movies. Where the serial killer would take his date, ushering sweet words to her. With a promise to a special surprise, he would lure her away, into the dark woods, where no eye could see. Then... he would strike the girl down, hacking her body into pieces!

Alone! In the wilderness! No eye to witness the crazed laughter as the killer sought delight in mutilating his victim.

Chen Yi shuddered.

Gulping down her fears, she called out. "Li Luxian?"

"What?"

"I mean you would not be the one who held grudges at small things, right?" Chen Yi tried to melt away the awkwardness in her question with a weak laugh.

Li Luxian didn't know what Chen Yi was trying to say. "Small things, like?"

"Like someone ignoring you? Someone at your level, you must be showered with attention and love since childhood." It was only her stupid self that would do the dishonor of ignoring this lofty being. 

Come to think of it. Li Luixan's sudden shift of mood was all too abrupt. The change made Chen Yi lower her guard and she readily agreed to this trip. If he decided to deal with her... Haha.

She was merely overthinking, right? RIGHT?!
