Chapter 217: I will gain her approval

Sensing the gaze upon him, Zhou Liqin was about to speak but...

"How much Zhao Liying tortured you to have you come here today?" Jing Lihua fixed her glare upon that handsome face and said plainly.

Whatever Zhou Liqing was about to say got stuck in his throat. He choked. "Zhao Liying? Who is Zhao Liying? I don't know her." He lied. "Ehm... You might have misunderstood. I came here because I was invited by Gu Peizhi. You know, everyone knows! We are best friends! I assure you, our encounter was only fate! Since I saw such a beautiful lady without the company of a deserving man, how could I let go of the opportunity?" 

"And you think you are deserving?" Jing Lihua raised her eyebrow at him.

"That would depend on whether this beautiful lady deems me worthy to give me the opportunity to escort her." Zhou Liqin flashed her yet another beautiful smile.

Jing Lihua's eyes twitched. 

Alright, calm down! No matter what, this fella right here is still Zhao Liying's boyfriend. It won't do nice to kill him.

She closed her eyes and it seemed as if she counted down to ten before reopening them. Once her eyes reopened, she looked a little under control.

"I'm not letting you escort me." Jing Lihua said sternly. Her eyes shone with brightness, corresponding her determination.

Zhou Liqin was puzzled.

'This is not going well,' He thought. Zhao Liying told him that she won't be willing to have him as her official boyfriend if he didn't get her best friend's approval. Initially, it was supposed to be a joke. But Zhou Liqin was confident that with his charm, he could easily subdue any of Zhao Liying friends.

So the bet turned serious.

Out of the two of them Mo Liang and Jing Lihua, he decided to target Jing Lihua first. After all, she was a female and no female could withstand the brunt of his attack.

He investigated and found out she was going to attend his friend's Gu Peizhi younger brother's engagement party. And what more? She hadn't found an escort! Wasn't this a perfect opportunity to win her favor since he was also invited to the party?!

Thus he showed up as a knight in shining armor! 

But how could...he have..guessed that...his efforts would have an opposite effect. 

Why was this woman looking like a cat glaring on him after he stood on its tail than looking at him as someone she owed a favor?

Zhou Liqin was puzzled.

"Why would that be so? Do you have something against me."

"I have already got an escort."

"Who?"

"Little fussy."

"Huh?"

Jing Lihua quietly raised the fat dozing cat. Zhou Liqin blinked a couple of times before understanding. But when he did, his face darkened.

What was this? This woman would prefer

a cat over him? Was this real.

Jing Lihua smiled contently as if she was very satisfied with his expressions. "I should not let my Meimie wait for me." She said and continued to the reception boy. The young boy led her to the venue.

After she was gone, Zhou Liqin immediately dialed to Zhao Liying.

"What is wrong with your friend? She said she would prefer a fat cat over me!"

"Eh, what?" Zhao Liying had just woken up from a nap. She could not tell what was Zhou Liqin ranting about.

Zhou Liqin narrated the whole incident to her.

After that, Zhao Liying paused for a second before bursting into loud laughter.

Zhou Liqin already darkened face turned to an even darker shade. At this point, it was akin to the bottom of the black pot. "Are you done?"

"Haha, sorry. It's just... I told you my friends are not simple." After wiping tears from her eyes Zhao Liying said in a tone of a responsible mother. "I told you, you shouldn't bet on this. My friend Jing Lihua, although she looks decent and mature on the surface she is crazier than me!"

Zhou Liqin's lips pressed into thin line: "I didn't call you to hear this from you."

"Then why did you call."

"To tell you that today I'll earn your friend's approval no matter what! First, it was just a bet. But now, it involves me personally!"

"Hey, it's alright but, Zhou Liqin, do not do anything stupid, alright?" Zhao Liying warned while still chuckling.

"You should warn your friend." Grudgingly, he hung up.

Inside the splendid venue for the cocktail party, two middleaged women were standing side by side. One was Lang Lan and the other was Su Xiefeng, the Mistress of the Gu household and the mother of Gu Peizhi. Lang Lan and Su Xiefeng were both known for their deep friendship. Because of their similar nature and similar situations, they shared many secrets.

"Jie, you looked very happy at today's event." Lang Lan said; however, there was a hint of jest in her tone. She knew exactly what was happening and why her friend was happy. 

Su Xiefeng smiled vividly. "How could I not be? My younger son is finally settling down. Isn't that a matter to rejoice?"

At this, Lang Lan couldn't help but laugh. "Your younger son? You mean...that vixen son's who seduced your husband?" Her voice was low.

At this. Su Xiefeng motioned her to shush. "Alright, no one other than my close friends knows this. There are many outsiders at this party. You should be careful."

"I was just joking. Don't get serious."

Not many people knew this but Gu Ting was the illegitimate son in the family. Since the matter of inheritance involved billions, Su Xiefeng didn't want him to be in the position to compete with her own son, Gu Piezhi. 

Su Xiefeng had always been con

If he had gotten another big family support because of his marriage in addition to his father, he would not be easily suppressible in the future.

But who knew Gu Ting would be so stupid to actually find a no one from a relatively small family and take the initiative to ask his father to end the marriage arrangement?

Of course, Su Xuefeng expressed immense joy and support once the future threat to her son decided to end itself on its own.
