Chapter 698 Why?

Gu Yan made herself a cup of tea. She came out in hurry today and didn’t even have time to drink water. It was only after drinking the tea that she felt much better.

According to the studio routine, every team had to hold a meeting at this hour to coordinate their work progress; this was also to improve their work efficiency. After drinking the tea, Gu Yan wanted to check in with everyone so that she could have a better understanding of the projects that the studio had been working on recently.

Gu Yan looked at the teams one by one. She felt satisfied when she saw how everyone had done a great job. It seemed that only work could make her feel happy.

Next was Jiang Jingcheng’s team. Gu Yan had the most confidence in Jiang Jingcheng’s works so she purposedly checked them last. She walked into the small conference room and did not expect to find Gu Manman there as well. Gu Yan then smiled mischievously at Jiang Jingcheng, which made Jiang Jingcheng confused because he did not know what Gu Yan meant.

Gu Manman was very angry when she saw Gu Yan making eyes at Jiang Jingcheng the moment she entered the room. “Did she not know that she should not flirt with her subordinates during work?”

Everyone stopped and greeted Gu Yan. Gu Yan motioned them to continue with their work while she walked over to Gu Manman’s side. Although everyone was busy with their own work, they were watching Gu Yan’s movements from the corners of their eyes. So, they were actually surprised when Gu Yan walked toward Gu Manman instead of Jiang Jingcheng.

The others were not aware that Gu Manman depended on her connections to join the studio, so they were a little surprised when Gu Yan personally handed the work to her as soon as she returned. Gu Manman’s work was usually sloppy, but now she had quietly gained Gu Yan’s favor?

Could it be that during the meeting yesterday when everyone went out to have a break, Gu Manman stayed and said something to Gu Yan? And because of that, Gu Yan gave Gu Manman such a good opportunity in such a short time?

But it was useless for them to think about it because they were neither Gu Yan nor Gu Manman; how could they know what happened between the two of them?

“Have you finished the work I asked you to do yesterday?”

Gu Yan felt the task was simple, so she thought that Gu Manman must have already finished it but did not have time to send it over to her. Since she met her now, she thought it would save her the trouble and asked for it so Gu Manman did not have to send it to her later.

“I didn’t do it.”

Gu Manman did not even raise her head as she spoke. Gu Yan was shocked. “Didn’t do it? What did that mean?”

When Gu Manman uttered those words, she deliberately did not lower her voice so everyone could hear it. Jiang Jingcheng was stunned and stopped talking while everyone also felt surprised and curious. “What exactly is Gu Manman trying to do?” The conference room quieted down in an instant and there was utter silence.

“What do you mean? Are you still not done, or you don’t want to do it?”

Gu Yan’s face turned cold. “What did she mean by saying that? Was she deliberately provoking me?” Gu Yan couldn’t stand people who didn’t take their jobs seriously. If Gu Manman couldn’t even do or didn’t want to do such a simple thing, how could Gu Yan hand over the job to her with ease?

Gu Yan had always been kind to the employees. It was rare for her to use such a serious tone; hence, the temperature in the studio seemed to have dropped all of a sudden.

“If you don’t want to do it, you should have told me when I assigned the job to you, instead of telling me that you didn’t do it when I asked for it now.”

Gu Manman did not respond at all to Gu Yan’s words, so Gu Yan repeated what she said. It was obvious that her words just now were very serious, but Gu Manman still didn’t say a word and just sat quietly in her seat.

“Let’s talk outside.”

Jiang Jingcheng—who felt the atmosphere was a little awkward—pulled Gu Yan and Gu Manman out of the conference room. If they continued to talk in front of the staff, then everyone in the studio would know about this matter.

That was not a situation that Jiang Jingcheng or Gu Yan wanted to happen.

Actually, the reason Jiang Jingcheng put Gu Manman in his team was to enable him to keep an eye on her because he was afraid she would cause problems. This way, even if she had any tricks up her sleeve, she would not be able to do anything under his nose.

But Jiang Jingcheng didn’t expect that Gu Manman would still stir up trouble like this. He held his forehead. “Was Gu Manman sent by God to punish me as my nemesis?”

“What’s the matter? Could you tell me now?”

Jiang Jingcheng first sent Gu Yan away and then stayed alone in a room with Gu Manman. He was actually feeling impatient, but he tried his best to suppress his anger when he asked this question.

Gu Manman still didn’t say anything; she just stared at Jiang Jingcheng aggrievedly. Jiang Jingcheng felt that she always had a pitiful look in her eyes so he couldn’t look at her directly.

Deep in her heart, Gu Manman scolded Jiang Jingcheng for being so stupid. “Gu Yan only saw him as a tool, but he is not aware of this and even ran around doing stuff for her.” Gu Manman was so angry when she saw it but she couldn’t do anything as he was willing to be used by Gu Yan.

Gu Manman felt that she was about to cry as she thought about this. “Why are men so stupid and can’t tell the difference between good and bad? I clearly did all this sincerely for him, but he didn’t notice me at all and only has eyes for Gu Yan. I clearly was scolded by Gu Yan for his sake, but now he’s asking me for the reason.”

Gu Manman stubbornly refused to speak; she remained silent even though Jiang Jingcheng repeatedly questioned her.

Jiang Jingcheng felt a little impatient, especially when he saw that Gu Manman was on verge of tears; he felt annoyed for no reason. “She could just tell me what the problem was and the reason that she acted like this!”

“What exactly did you want? You can either come with me to explain to Gu Yan or you can just pack up and scram.”

Jiang Jingcheng actually was not thinking of that, but somehow his words came out differently and he regretted it as soon as he said it. Such words were too harsh for a girl. However, the words spoken could never be taken back.
