Chapter 53: I Love You, Hubby!

After confirming that there were no more BOSSes hiding around, the 2 of them readied their spears as they crossed the bridge. Yang Ke’er was about to step forwards, her spear readied to face the ordinary zombies when Zhang Xiao Qiang stopped her.

“If you kill to your heart’s content now, there will be corpses everywhere. How will we drive across then? You go and move the corpses?” He chided her lightly, as she pouted and did not speak!

“See the empty area by the bridge? Go there and wait. I’ll go attract their attention, kill each one that you see. If there are two, take down two. Don’t ever faint again!”

Zhang Xiao Qiang kept nagging, and Yang Ke’er’s face was showing an irritated expression. Seeing her expression, he was reminded of his own past, where his father had often lectured him, and he had the same look of displeasure.

“Maybe this is the rebellious phase of teenagers? Maybe I really have become old?” Zhang Xiao Qiang decided not to think further and went to engage the zombies.

As he expected, the moment he got close, the zombies began to lunge for him without thinking. The group began to move towards the empty area. He attracted their attention, while Yang Ke’er began killing the zombies with relish.

After attracting about 20 to 30, Zhang Xiao Qiang turned around in preparation to join Yang Ke’er and fight the zombies, and all he saw was that the ground was strewn with corpses. There were maybe 2 or 3 that remained standing.

Yang Ke’er seemed as though she had been possessed by a valkyrie. She spun the rebar Beast Horn Spear around like it was nothing, flipping zombies around in the air. There were some that had their heads bashed in, shambling around, groping for air.

Seeing the zombies flying around and lunging aimlessly, Zhang Xiao Qiang felt dispirited again. Yang Ke’er had blatantly not listened to him, she used all sorts of techniques and purposely did not pierce. In a flash, she had cleaned up the entire place and looked towards Zhang Xiao Qiang with an entertained look.

“Ai~~~~” He felt like he had failed, other people had managed to raise some cute lolis, why was his incredibly wilful?! Forget it, let her be!

His feelings sour, he decided not to think anymore, and continued his task of attracting the zombies.

Killing the 50 zombies basically didn’t require his help at all, Yang Ke’er was enough to handle it! Seeing the corpses all lying everywhere, Zhang Xiao Qiang didn’t feel envious at all. Even if they could kill more, it was still the lowest cannon fodder! How can she compare with him? She might as well not act, if she had to, she had better finish off a BOSS in a move!

The bridge was cleared of all zombies, and Zhang Xiao Qiang proceeded to drive the tractor across.

The moment they reached the opposite bank, he jumped down from the tractor and made his way towards the King Long coach.

“What’s going on? Are there still monsters?” Yang Ke’er immediately followed him, her arm ready-ing her favorite spear!

Zhang Xiao Qiang stepped carefully around the scattered human bones and assessed the coach in front of him. The left side of the front of the coach had been rammed heavily. The driver had long since gone to goodness knows where. There was only the black blood stain that remained on the torn up driver’s seat.

The entire coach seemed otherwise intact, most of the black tinted windows not broken. Only the huge door near the bridge had been knocked open, lying on top of another car.

Thinking about the possible loot, his mood became better, and took the initiative to joke with Yang Ke’er: “Don’t you usually pick up items after killing the monsters?”

“Uncle ah! Are you having a fever? Those monsters can’t wear clothes, what items would they drop?!” She could not understand his greedy nature.

“Haha! There might not be treasure drops, but there might be treasure chests!” He spoke while climbing towards the King Long coach.

It was a mess inside the coach, with human bones, torn cloth and all sorts of luggage strewn across the floor. His aim were these pieces of luggage, as most people would usually bring some goodies on their way home for the festive season!

Yang Ke’er went back to the tractor and sat in, on her left, a huge pile of snacks, and on her right, there was shampoo, conditioner, face cleanser, hand moisturizer, lip gloss and even brow pencils and all sorts of cosmetic tools.

She munched on her snacks while admiring the BonMarche bag in her hands. Zhang Xiao Qiang had no interest in these sort of things and didn’t even know what their value was.

“Ai~~~~” He felt like he had sighed countless times today. The loot today were only some snacks and female cosmetics, and the bag that Yang Ke’er had not let go of ever since he found it.

He had also found a Nokia phone, which was inside a leather pouch. There was a spare battery, and the moment he saw this phone, he took a liking to it. The original products could not be compared with his old lousy model, furthermore, this was out in October 2012, and its value on the net had been 8,888.

At that time, he had been in shock. Such a handphone could allow him to build 3 computers. Although he didn’t know what use the phone would bring in the apocalyptic world, he decided to bring it along.

After changing the battery, he turned it on. It came on with a sweet sound, and the China Mobile’s logo came on, followed by a picture of a small girl in the background. The little girl looked about 12 or 13, her right hand holding a pair of chopsticks as she held it in front of the camera, her face wearing a mischievous smile. She was extremely charming to look at, like a little fairy girl!

The little girl on the phone had a pair of large and beautiful eyes and a pretty face. Together with that mischievous look, it caused one to feel extremely heartwarming, yet at the same time, a sense of heartache.

Zhang Xiao Qiang sighed as he looked at the girl. Honestly speaking, the girl was truly beautiful! She was much better to look at when compared to those girls from those games online. Even Yang Ke’er that ‘huge’ loli could not be compared with this girl.

Yang Ke’er could only be considered slightly above average, and she had the potential to become a beauty. But this girl, this girl already had the looks that were definitely out of the world, even at such a young age.

He shook his head: “Such a loli, if she hasn’t been eaten, she should have become a zombie loli already!”

Yang Ke’er still had not placed the bag down, as though she could not get tired of it. Zhang Xiao Qiang began browsing through the phone out of boredom. So many things had happened today, and the sky was getting dark. They decided to camp for a night within the coach after cleaning it up.

Opening up the message inbox, he saw a number of unread messages from ‘Wife’. He scrolled to the earliest and began reading.

2012.12.31 10:40 am: “Hubby, where are you? Please come home quick, the people outside have turned mad!!”

2012.12.31 13:21 pm: “Hubby, where are you? I’m scared, the people outside have begun eating each other!”

2012.12.31 19:50 pm: “Hubby, are you hurt anywhere? The madmen outside have begun to knock on the metal door, Mimi and I have hidden in the basement, it’s safe!”

2013.1.1 10:00 am: “Hubby, how come you’re not answering, I’m getting worried!”

2013.1.1 14:17 pm: “Hubby, did you receive the messages, how come I can’t call through! I miss you, Mimi misses you too…”

2013.1.7 08:02 am: “I don’t know where you are.. I don’t know if you’re still alive. Yesterday, I saw Boss Zhang from opposite trying to make a break for it. I saw his car surrounded, and he was pulled out before being eaten alive….I love you, hubby.”

All the messages have been read. Zhang Xiao Qiang sighed out again, his mood depressed.

The wife of the owner of this phone had hidden with a cat called Mimi inside the house. The owner of the phone had either been eaten or became a zombie. His wife was still waiting for him to go home to save her, but her husband would never be able to make it back forever!
