Chapter 173: The expected Boss

The number of zombies gradually dropped. A sudden gust of wind blew the smoke in the air, thinning the amount of smoke around them. Zhang Xiao Qiang no longer needed to patrol within the smoke and could clearly see the battle situation. The machine gunners’ faces were all covered with soot that was caused by the machine guns, the ladies beside them also had dirtied faces, aside from their necks which were still white, the rest of them were all black. The bullet shells on the ground had piled up to a thick layer with some forming small mounds. Following the drop in zombies, the machine gunners changed to shooting intermittently, giving long shots followed by short breaks, the three machine guns took turns to fire.

There were no more zombies falling from the top of the bridge, the 100 meters long frontline was littered with zombie bodies, the zombies that were shot to death by rifles were still recognizable as their bodies were still completely intact, but those that were killed by machine guns had their bodies scattered all over, skulls destroyed, bodies ripped apart to the point of revealing their bones, their broken arms and legs that were broken apart piled up all over the place with various internal organs and intestines were also found all over.

When only a dozen zombies were left scattered around, Zhang Xiao Qiang got the machine gunners to stop firing, the remaining zombies were handled by the rifles until all of them were down. The continuous clamoring gunshots stopped, turning the entire battlefield silent, but Zhang Xiao Qiang did not let the machine gunners rest and got the kitchen to use them to serve hot water and food, allowing the rest on the frontlines to take a break. He stood by the machine gun and looked upwards towards the bridge and waited, as though he was awaiting something….The man who tried to escape had not died, Zhang Xiao Qiang got some of the survivors to throw him onto the mountain of zombie corpses, while the empty space in front of the camp was smashed using sledgehammers for two mortar groups that emplaced themselves in positions and aimed straight for space beneath the bridge. Two forklifts moved to above the hill and aside from Yang Ke’er, everyone else did not know why Zhang Xiao Qiang was preparing such huge measures, unsure of what he was waiting for. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not deploy the mortars for the zombie horde but took them out only after they were cleared, this meant that the thing he was waiting for was something not easy to handle. All of them held their mess tins and ate inattentively, all of them occasionally looking towards Zhang Xiao Qiang.

Zhang Xiao Qiang did not know whether anything would come, the wind that passed previously not only blew away the smoke but also the coward’s blood scent all around, the S2 and D2’s smell were not limited to 1 km and could even sense the faint blood scent from the wind like a shark extremely sensitive in water. Zhang Xiao Qiang would rather be amply prepared to guard against them than to be caught unprepared.

3 minutes…..5 minutes….10 minutes….20 minutes. Zhang Xiao Qiang sighed lightly, he turned and smiled towards Yang Ke’er. Zhang Xiao Qiang walked back to the camp, he was hungry and decided to eat before patrolling around. Yang Ke’er followed behind him depressed. When the others saw Zhang Xiao Qiang lessen his caution, they recovered their daily hubbubs, some made conversation, some smoked, some quietly ate their rice and dishes. The originally deadly silent camp started to become lively again. Zhang Xiao Qiang walked towards the Fat Chef, who was holding onto two portions of food and smiling towards him.

“OWWWWWW…..” A loud howl came from above the flyover and was extremely loud and clear, the resonant scream caused the entire camp to freeze as though they were a painting, everyone was stunned. Zhang Xiao Qiang stopped in his tracks and looked towards the flyover. Yang Ke’er immediately turned and looked at the flyover excitedly. The Fat Chef, Old Frank, Three, the heavy machine gunners, the Combat Team as well as the Logistic Team all turned towards the bridge.

All of them noticed a tall figure that had revealed itself from the bridge, firstly revealing its head that had a broken and yellow helmet, then its robust upper body, then it’s two thick and powerful legs, revealing its entire entity. A few of the Combat Team and Logistic Team members were trembling in their legs, all of them were the lucky survivors and old members from the granary, they recognized the real identity of the monster. A D2, this D2 was not as tall as the one at the granary and did not look as ferocious, but a D2 was still a D2, the skin on its body was impervious to bullets and wielded a strength capable of smashing walls. The rifles carried by the Combat Team Members were a joke to a D2.

They were afraid, the D2 was their nightmare, they were afraid, an undefeatable monster made them despair. All of them looked towards Zhang Xiao Qiang, hoping to hear the order to retreat.

Zhang Xiao Qiang was not afraid. Instead, he was brimming with excitement. Ever since he had the death fight against the D2 at the granary, he had lost all fear towards them. The creeping shadow within his heart had been dispelled, and with so many subordinates with him, what was there to fear? He was constantly thinking about WH City, to get to WH City, he needed to get rid of the D2 that blocked his path, although he was unsure if the D2 could compare to the one they encountered at the granary, Zhang Xiao Qiang did not have a single ounce of fear in him. He was the same person with the same strength, the only difference was the burning courage inside.

The D2 stood on top of the bridge. It had caught the scent of blood beneath the bridge and unleashed an excited scream. It took a step forward, its feet stepped into empty air and leaned forward as it dropped down the bridge. Its gigantic body shot down at a fast speed and quickly collided into a steel beam and got stuck like the other zombies. It unleashed an anguished howl and started to twist and turn as it tried to struggle off. It was a hard to come by opportunity. Zhang Xiao Qiang immediately gave the order to fire, “Tututututut…..” The machine guns unleashed their fiery barrage once again, three flaming tongues sprayed all across the D2’s body, the heavy machine gun bullets occasionally taking off pieces of flesh off the D2. A line of bullets found its way to the D2’s head, grinding down the safety helmet, revealing its head. It was still suspended on the beam as it continued to howl….the heavy machine guns were powerful, but on the D2, its might was no longer as obvious, the thick and long bullets were only able to scrape off small pieces of flesh off the D2, furthermore, 100m distance between them prevented the three machine gunners to accurately land all their bullets on the D2. The D2 stayed suspended on the beam and continued getting shot, but all the attacks were not severe. It became enraged, it raised its body and used its claws to grab around, one of which grabbed onto a beam by the side. With something to grab on, it used its other claw and cut the beam that was suspending it in midair.

Its claws were not as curved as an S2 but its claws were much tougher and durable as compared to the S2, following the movements of the claws, the beams trembled. The machine guns never stopped spraying bullets on its body while the D2 tried to break apart the beam. All the survivors holding onto the rifles started to take aim after seeing that the D2 was still stuck, which increased the fury of the D2. It curled its claws into a fist and smashed ferociously onto the beam. After a few consecutive strikes, the beam started to bend, the connectors at both ends also started to break. It raised its body in preparation to use its largest force to smash down, as it bent its body, it lost its balance and fell backward, falling onto a circle of reinforced steel bars. These steel bars that easily stabbed through the zombies were actually bent by the D2’s enormous body. As the D2 continued to tremble under the kinetic energy of the bullets, it slowly crawled up under the rain of fire and started to walk towards the direction of the bullets.
